Re: "Old Olive" 1970 C10 porterbuilt build

Build a frame outta 1" square tubing and keep the original steel bed. Raise it about 11" or so. I haven't measured it out yet. Got some Hart Rods super wide rear tubz coming in.

How do you plan to attach the 1x1 square tubing to the bedside where they meet? I'm getting ready to do this soon and looking for ideas

It will bolt to the bedsides. You can see above the flanges on the ends of the square tubing. I didn't wanna weld them to the bedsides in case I need to take off the bedsides again.

Got the hinged center section working with the gas struts. Air tank will mount there and compressors on each side as shown. Boyds Welding fuel tank in. Also welded in a battery box to relocate it to under the bed.

That's badass man. Good job on that bedfloor. How did you figure out the length for the gas struts that holds up the hinged section? Happen to have a part number?

Thanks man. I went to a local Leer store (the company that makes camper shells and tonneau covers) and picked out some of the longest gas struts they had, like 36" extended, 80lbs of force each. Took them home and played with positions until I was happy. I bought 4 - 90 degree ball tip mounts for the struts. Then found out they hit my frame notch when closed. I took them back and ended up with some that are 20" extended and 120 lbs of force each. Played around again until they lifted the center to where I needed it to and tacked them on.

I can get you part numbers and measurements if you need them.

That gives me a good idea of what i need. No need for part numbers. Keep up the good work!
