Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I didn't want to say it, but it looks like somebody used that 215 for a boat anchor already.
Was there ever a 2v Rochester carb and GM intake for that specific motor and was it compatible with 250s and 292s? '72 SMOKER: That's no ordinary 292, is it?

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I had a 215 in a '65 LeMans. It had the same 1-barrel as the others. I think I still have the manifold in the barn.

No it's not, the truck did have a 292 in it before though. It's a 1991 5.9 cummins and still a strait 6.

Is that a turbo on that Cummins? And can you go BioDiesel? I think the only way to beat the high cost of fuel these days would be to go BioDiesel, manage a McDonalds, and then steal the grease.

Believe or not there was no rust under mud. Pic of a trunk filled with mud and after car wash. It was sitting in the desert since '78.

Some good lookin' engines here, but haven't seen any with a/c. Still waitin' on Pritch's engines to return (maybe he will do a progress with pics?). Maybe get an autograph (sign the engine?) since the builder is a Salt Flats Legend! Lets see some more pics, it will keep me motivated!

No bling or paint, but there is plenty of cold AC.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I have a couple of questions regarding your A/C set-up. Did you have to modify the air cleaner support to accomodate the the a/c brackets? It doesn't look like you added a different shroud when you put a/c on, am I missing something? Finally, what aftermarket a/c set-up did you go with?

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Hey, I got one of those! It was prop in a kevin costner movie that no one saw. I 'swagged' it when the pic was over and they were throwing stuff out. I bought a bunch of rods and jets from the Edelbrock Thunderor 1825 for a rebuild. The accelerator pump had a purple leather cup. I couldn't find the 3-stage metering rods, anymore. I have one pair of deep-dish primary jets, that some P.O. had switched to the back, secondary jet position. [.100. I think]
Somebody looked it up on line and said it was out of an early '70s 440 Mopar. I've back burner-ed the project for now but I'd like to know more about your carb for future reference. I never thought about using it on an L6 though. I think 500 CFM for a 296CuIn build: [292 @ .030- over = 296] is already too fat, but , heck, I got tired of always adjusting my Holley 390. After a 25 year run, it was shot...

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
If I understand your question, the answer is no. It is just spaced out from the head a little. The bracket uses the two bolt holes near the front of the head and the bottom of the two holes behind the #2 plug. One piece of steel stock goes from the front straight back to that bolt. A second piece from the top of the bracket goes down at an angle and is welded to the lower piece, just below plug #2.
No shroud. The '94 Cad DeVille pusher fan runs all the time the AC is on, which is all the time because it is an Electronic Climate Control from a '87 Lincoln Mark VII. You just set the temp degrees and leave it alone year round. The other fan is a '89 DeVille fan. It is on a 208 deg temp switch mounted on top of the thermistat housing and to my knowledge has never turned on. The factory temp gauge has just the "L" and "H". In this heat, it goes all the way up just over the "L". I love the unit, but it was far too much work to sqeeze it in there. Had I known, I would have used an aftermarket.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
To keep this Chevy related, the spec sheet with the rebuild kit for this carb shows that it was used on 1966 Chevrolet 327's. It was also used on 307, 327 and 350 Chevy Marine engines.
The Mopar 440 AVS had 1 11/16" primary and secondary bores. The 383, 340 carbs had smaller 1 7/16" primary bores. Depends on who you believe, but many list them as 625 and 750 cfm carbs. Edelbrock's cheap copies are listed as 500, 650 and 800. They don't list the bore or venturi sizes so I don't know how they compare. The one with the smaller primary and the flow regulated secondary does not have a problem with a 300 cu in engine from what I've seen. The secondary only flows as much air as the engine can handle.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Too late to add pics to my previous post I guess.....here's a shot of the 230 in my '65 C10. She's backed by the SM420 "granny" 4 speed, and I assume 4.11 or higher gears. This was taken a week or so after I got the truck at the beginning of the year. Not much has changed; I cleaned up the battery, and a lot of the dust is gone from tuning and driving her. Other than that, this is how she sits today.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I have good news for you.. that is not a 230 pictured, you have a 292!!!!! Your side covers are the 6" tall versions, and your fuel pump is located behind the motor mount on the pass side....

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
hello I6 guys. im new and ignorant to em but very interested in swapping my 350 for a I6 in my 70 c20 in the future. just want to lean what i can about them. which one is the most popular and why? not interested in power really, just a dependable motor. does one motor have cheaper replacement parts over others? are the I6's taller then a sbc?
