Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Speak of Frank Zappa, interesting read on his father, and Jim Morrison's as well. More than a few hippy musicians come from influential military fathers. Zappa always had the reputation of genius, that apple didn't fall far from the tree.

An obscure one! I love it. Thanks for dusting off the cobwebs of my musical memory
Got a little time, like 18 minutes, to go back there with Eric and Dwayne?

I enjoyed that thanks. At 18 minutes reminds me of the Watkins Glen soundcheck jam
Clapton and Bonnie and Delaney band folks I believe are on this George Harrison jam...

Taking things in another direction, I have a thing I swear I don't know how it found me. I think I dozed off and woke up to it. Cracks me up. So retro '70s goofiness. My thoughts after watching this were, "2020 may be the year from hell, but it ain't no '77"

Yep, clumsy and beautiful tune Tom.
My son named his red-nose Pitbull Iggy. Never had a pit before, he was like a little boy, gentlest dog I've known.

Good and raw Tom Waits. A special kind of folk artist
Well, I looked at the calendar and it's less that a week before Christmas. Merry Christmas Christmas Boogie, the Canned Heat way

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Im not sure why but I was in the mood for some Kenny Rogers today. Not the mega hit stuff ... Gambler, Coward of the County, but I hadnt heard Rubin James in a long time. Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Then another song popped up by them, Cherish. He said this was a big hit for us in the mid 60's, but back then we were known as the Association ... What? How can I be this old and never put that one together in my pea brain?
Then I went down the rabbit hole of songs from the mid 60's to early 70's and am just now coming up for air haha. EDIT .... Did some digging, it seems the video I saw of him saying they were the Association in 65 he was joking. Well he got me =)

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Total pop was still cool in the mid-60s . Plus I was a kid, so those Snoppy vs Red Baron and other novelty songs were just great to me. Thanks for sharing
I feel required to share this. If you are going to play any jazzed up versions of Christmas songs, this is where it starts I also now feel required to play this since Kenny's name was brought up but no music of his shared

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Dang. Another one gone. How many knew Tony Rice's music? That guy could flat pick now. Maybe you heard him with Ricky Scaggs or David Grisman. He and David took off with "dawg music", pretty much their own brand of music, though to me based on Django Rheinhart's music, also in a class of it's own

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Bummer! I’ve listened to Tony Rice for decades and saw him a couple of times with Peter Rowan. Too bad. I’m going to put some of his music on now.
Here’s a good jam w Peter Rowan.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Thanks for sharing that. I've been listening to his music a lot since I heard the news. His playing was so fine. His early years in bluegrass is when I first learned of him. He could actually sing quite well
In his younger days: This version of Cold Rain & Snow... so fine:

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
I love that song. Like so many old songs, the first version I heard was newer and modernized (put to rock beat). That version was on the Grateful Dead's first album and I loved it
Liked it even better live and slowed down, less psychodelic I was brought up on folk music, blues, and bluegrass. It took me a while to realize I had already been listening to that song when my dad played his records when I was younger. I always liked this song. I love it now more than ever. Obray Ramsey: Another older version with a twist, sung by a woman, Betsey Rutherford: A more recent version by Del McCoury More recent female version, Molly Tuttle: Now the Grateful Dead versions are old and the new is Dead & Co with John Mayer:

Good versions there. The version Muleskinner did (Rowan, Grisman, Clarence White, et al) is pretty good too.
Tony Rice cut an album with Garcia and Grisman that I really enjoy. My how time flies. Here's their version of House of the Rising Sun

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
This website is cool, sample of pop songs by year. My first instinct was to check 1976, I was 14-15, twas a good year. Except that one time when... I went through a few and 1970 stood out for me most, yet somehow they missed the greatest tune every written, by Gordon Lightfoot.
http://thenostalgiamachine.com/ Forgot about this tune
