Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I mount my tires with Goop hand cleaner as a lube and big wooden paint stir sticks as levers. Start to finish, with practice you can put a tire on a wheel and air it and seat the bead in two minutes.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Desperate times call for desperate measures. New tires and rims sitting here......and know body can mount and balance them until Monday. Ha.......I have done close to a thousand moto tires.....how hard can it be??
Easy....about 5 min per tire. Nice clearance at full lock. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
They look awesome man! I did a google search on the name on the tires to try to find pricing but all I found was sites with their phone number listing, and bad reviews about unsafe tires BUT these look great to me if you don't mind me asking what was the pricing on these. Dont feel obligated to answer if your not comfortable

Thanks. After you gave me the link I realized that the reason I didn't see it last time was because I was on my cell phone and didn't pull up the full site

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Coach....looks great! Being a former MX'er and seeing your other passion, I knew the spoons would come. Good job.
Chris...I have had several Hurst wide whites. They are the exact same as Diamond back. They use a modern technology brand name radial and apply or bond the white to the buffed outer sidewall. Hurst does have a drag tire, pie crust cheater slick etc and they also replicate the bias ply retread drag tires. Some people haven't had good luck when they mount and dismount them several times with a newbie on the tire machine and tears a bead. Remeber there are always 2 sides to every coin and not everything is true on the internet. Posted via Mobile Device |

Your truck is coming along nicely. I was wondering how long you would look at those new tires and wheels before you decided to try mounting them yourself, LOL. It's actually not that hard.

No dice fellas. I got the rears mounted but could not get them to take air. Tried all the tricks I know and gave up.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Wrap a ratchet strap around the tread, all the way around the tire and hook it to itself. Then crank it down tight. The strap being in the center of the tread all the way around will tend to push the sides out to where they will seat on the beads.
Also take the valve core out of the valve stem. That will give you better flow through the stem until you get the bead seated. Posted via Mobile Device |

I've always used ether and fire when it gets that tough.

Ratchet strap works, remove core first. Carbon cleaner and a match, remove core first.
