Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"

What, nobody cares anymore

The upholstry guy's been working short days due to teh heat in his shop so he's promised I'll have the panels by thursday. He came and test fit the carpet and it looks good. Got a call my restored belts are ready. Got the rest of them from Sharpie and also got a nice black steering wheel from him. After cleaning off the packing material that luterally melted to it due to the heat....Jason helped me with a steering wheel puller to get it on. Looks really good.

Also got the door weatherstrip on. Fit well...just going to wait for it to dry and then I will trim the excess...

carpet laid in there...

shift ring looks good as a contrast...

Here's the wheel before cleaning

and weatherstrip installed

and wheel...big difference from the cracked blue one...

Wheel is going to be scorching hot in the middle of summer if you park anywhere with that top off! Ouch! This thing is looking great though, super close to being finished, keep up the great work!

Thanks. I thought about the wheel but it looks so much better than the factory blue color that didn't match the paint or dash color so it stuck out like a sore thumb....
The other option was a billet half or full wrap but that would have been even worse....or wood but I don't have any other wood to make it fit with the rest of the interior...

As long as whoever owns it has a lick of sense they will keep a towel in the truck for the steering wheel. It doesn't matter what color the wheel is in Florida or anywhere the temp gets above 90, the steering wheel is going to get hot. I used to keep a two towels in my old 79 Scotty when I was in High School, many moons ago, one for the vinyls seats and one for the stearing wheel and I had the red interior. Looks great man ...need to wheel it out of the Garage and give us a panaramic of the truck. (hint hint nudge nudge). Looking awesome.

Tomorrow is a different story....hope to have a NICE update tomorrow and I'll take lots of pics. Here's hoping....

Thanks. Just got a call from the upholstry guy and he might not be coming today

He PROMISED me it would be done Saturday. Then Monday. Then Tuesday. Then today....now he is PROMISING me tomorrow....here's hoping (I feel like I've said that before )

He's offering to help with whatever else he can to get the truck ready for the show Saturday and I understand things happen so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt this last time....

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"

Thanks. Got a little done tonight but it was one of those frustrating nights....got over late and took 2X as long to do everything and getting down to the small things like figuring out what size screws go where on trim pieces....trying to replace all the screws with stainless to do it right...

On to the evening's pics....The weatherstrip came out well....

And found the plug was there all along....just tucked up and zip tied out of the way I assume until the rear harness was installed and grounded. The passenger side marker wasn't working so I'll have to check that bulb and ground...but other than that everything worked...
Here's the plug...just above the gas pedal

Speaking of gas pedal...that was one of the things that took me too long....I took it off paying attention to the spring but then got distracted and when I went to put it back on forgot about which way the spring was tensioned and spent about 15-20 minutes trying every possible way before taking a breather and getting it together in about 30 seconds

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"

Laid out the rear tailgate seal weatherstrip and those brackets and going to install them when the rear panels and carpet go in.

As you can see from the weatherstrip picture....the wetsanding has begun. The painter wants to do it all himself and plans to buff it also for me....I just hope he can come by soon....Saturday is going to be a work day instead of show day...

Hopefully these are the last pics I get of the dash like this....because hopefully tomorrow the seats go in...

Nice work! You are so close to done! just a matter of hours now, not days or weeks. Well, that is if your help shows up as promised

Thanks guys. Upholstery guy called to delay again.......

but said he'll be there at 11am this morning and finish today...we'll see!

The painter is actually going above and beyond. He came over originally just to help with the ratios of paint and showing what spray pattern to use in the extreme heat we've been having, but decided to go ahead and spray the blazer. Now that he has sprayed it and is happy with how our prep work was and how the end product came out...he wants to finish it by doing the wet sanding and buffing himself...that's the kind of guy I like...someone who is proud of their work

well, good news is he came and got the door panels and rear panels on and carpet glued down. Bad news is that there are a bunch of little things he needs to do/fix and he's not answering my calls....oh well...no car show tomorrow.

He did realize he was working on a resto and that things were expected to be done right .... or maybe he is regretting taking this job because he does not have the abilities or work ethic required to be a good businessman...hmm...I would definitely recommend a bad review with the Better Business Bureau... Anyway... I still want to see pictures.... BTW did you see JRBECKs truck with the hood on....awesome....now you need to sway be back to the blazer side of life with awesome pics of your vehicle...lol

Sorry you won't make it either...but the biggest thing for me is making sure it's right and getting it ready to sell...

It looks good in pictures but it definitely needs work. The panels are 1/2" too short at the back end and they don't fit tight on the inside...he'scoming over tomorrow morning at 7 to meet with me to get them straight.

Thanks. I am actually really happy with the panels...just the fit was off.
He did come by this morning and work for a couple hours and got them fitting tighter to the bedsides. Then he took them back to work on them and is supposed to bring them back hopefully by Monday.

I spent most of the day over working on all the little details. Putting stainless screws wherever I could swap out basic ones, getting the vent window screws in, and got the driver's door panel 100% finished...

Got the front seats in minus seatbelts and waiting on the rear till I figure out what he's going to do about the belt (didn't put the belts on when he did the reupholstry and I just remembered it goes under the upholstry on the sides when I was looking for the other two bolt holes

Got the rear carpet strip with the rear tailgate weatherstrip installed. Need to figure out why it's keeping the tailgate from closing other than being a new gasket....

Picture of the carpet strips and rear seat (not bolted in yet)
