Re: Birth of a C10

man that's a nice job, and in just one year?, i wish i could have gotten that far in the three years ive had mine, but one thing i am adding pretty soon is some rear air bags so question is what is needed to hook them up?, so far im getting two air lift bags not sure what model, and a compressor/tank combo i think was used for air horns, im going to the auto parts store and getting some air lines as soon as i get the bags and tank.... how hard/simple is it to install rear bags without c notch?

Re: Birth of a C10

Thanks guys!

Fat Tony! sounds like you have the basics down for the bags already tank, compressor, bags, line it should be pretty easy to install the bags without a c-notch,just remove the rear springs and bolt them in, but I think youll need a spacer/stand inbetween the frame and bag if your not going to c-notch the rear look at this thread :
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...olt+bag+plates

or like these which you can probabley get cheap through a vender here in the suspension section of the main board :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-72-Chev...4b7b73&vxp=mtr

and if you just want to raise and lower the rear and not worried about how fast it raises and lowers you can just get 1/4 line and use a manual switch like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Airlift-Manu...fb6962&vxp=mtr

just have to get fittings and run a line from the tank to the switch and a line from the switch to the bags....no need for solenoid's

good luck

Re: Birth of a C10

Does it necessarily need those brackets or can i bolt it up to the frame without it?

would i need to drill new holes into the frame?

around how much would it cost me total for air lines, brackets, fittings, and im no sure but i think i might also be getting one of those switches with the deal i got, its two air lift bags brand new, plus the tank but im not sure how good that tank will work because i think it is mainly for horns around how much is need to raise bags?

also would i be able to use the same tank/compressor for bags and also an air horn? or would i need a separate one

here is a link to the tank/compressor im getting in the deal: http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/kleinn/6120.htm

Re: Birth of a C10

i got the bags, but how would i tell which bags i have i see no serial number all the bags say is air lift, i also have the manual paddle switch, and the compressor/tank combo, im not sure if the tank is big enough to completely fill the bags but not to worried seeing as how im mainly going to ride around with the minimum amount of psi required

That's pretty cool! Can you use cups like that with stock springs to lower it?

I want to keep the stock feel to the ride.

no, not unless you lower the factory spring seat, because the springs have to sit in spring seat or they will slide around...

Thanks I appreciate It!

Not much going on with the truck besides driving it daily, Ive been non stop working since I went back to work , wiring houses, pouring concrete patio, volunteering to help wire a new church that a friend belongs too,and other odd jobs,I just haven't had much spare time to do anything major, but I did get around to installing a new gas gauge so now Its all new sending unit, wire, gauge I NOW CAN SEE HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE!!!!! And I figured some new wires and spark plugs was a good idea since its been over a year running the old ones.... Well thats it for now....

Well messing around with the air bags tail dragging I found out I can go over speed bumps just fine, but I can drag the the rear-grill-roll-roll-pan on the ground when theres elevation changes in the road, mostly in the older sections of town on side streets crossing over main streets that have more of a hump rather then the new flat streets......

CLICK TO VIEW tail drag video :

well the back seam where the roll pan and the bed side meet, dragged on the road and bent the roll pan back..

I took it over to Richies and took my "BFH" and beat it back straight... had him weld the bottom couple inchs of the seam together since this area was already messed up from sometime in the trucks past...

I made some scrape plates to spand the seam so it doesnt happen catch and bend back again, and had richie weld them on:

did a quick job at body filling the creases and molded them on, and low and behold after a day or so messing around scraped the rear again but this time the plates worked and roll pan is fine, eventually when I will rework the whole rear section when I do the whole truck but for now it works:

While richie had the welder out had him weld the bottom bar of the seat back thats been broken since I got the truck, much more comfortable now:

I also replaced the used camero rear sway bar end links to some new energy suspension links:

Did Richie voice any concern about welding so close to the fuel tank?

That is some awesome stuff man!
Not so sure I would weld that close to the tank either, glad that worked out Ok .......
Can you snap a pic when you get those sway bar suspensions mounted? I cannot visualize what those are for.

No problem "McMurphy"!

I installed a camero rear swaybar to the trailing arms of my truck so im running rear sway bar , and this style sway bar uses "end links" which is the parts pictured, the ones I got with the swaybar at pick-n-pull were pretty old so I just upgraded to a newer better set....heres a picture:

I also wanted to say thank you again for the sending unit you sent me I received it just fine and I appreciate it very much, I had already bought a new one before it arrived but am planning on relocating my tank to the rear at somepoint and may still be able to use it, or if you want me to send it back I can also do that too just let me know!

Re: Birth of a C10

Went thrift storing today with the ol' lady and found me a old school steering column flash light for .49 cents, threw a couple battery's into and it works! Now I can replace the repop one I already have, you can notice the difference in quality between them right away when you pick them up.....

.49 cents flash light!

repop on the left, old school on the right:

Re: Birth of a C10

I got mine at so-cal speed shop down the street from my house, but they sell them on ebay but are a little more expensive:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OLD-SCHOOL-V...82517b&vxp=mtr

if you type in "steering column flashlight holder" in ebay search you can see a few different styles.....im not sure it would hold the weight of a 4 cell mag light or not,i dont own one but maybe i can borrow a friends and see how it does and let you now....if i remember to do so

Thanks for the photo, I dont have a rear sway bar yet. Frankly I am on my way out to the garage right now to cut and weld exhaust ports in my mid frame cross member, then I will be putting my rear end back where it belongs. I think I may call around and see if there is one of those rear sways lying around....
Nah man, keep that sending unit, I wont need it at all.
Sorry it got to you too late !

Hey CHEMLAB! Glad to see you still coming around these parts! hows your truck coming along?

Not much of a up date just a couple small new items installed nothing serious( one peice at a time right!) and driving the wheels off my truck and using it to haul my scrap metal findings, recyclables, recycling pallets for extra money:

the other day went to my car club members house and helped him set up for his b-day party we held in the garage and my truck and his car were the focal point LOL!:

and then one day driving down the freeway my raccoon tail and antenna decided to snap off and take flight , so i ordered a new antenna, glove box door striker, and also a dome light unit from LMC, and bid and won a raccon tail and used glove box door button on EBAY:

old brittle unit held to cab by packing tape:

New unit:

First time having a latching glove box door,,,,,,Amazing!

Also replaced the starter!

And "Glendale" and I made it out to the "Mala Noche" car show in roseville ca.:
