Re: My new project 86 Silverado
Updates...
Got tires, got them mounted and balanced... got the fronts bolted on... May not be able to tell by the pics, but there is a big width difference between the 295/50's and the 245/60's... Hopefully can get all the front steering installed, and the rest of the front end components (sway bar, shocks etc.) installed this week... slowly coming along... should have my 9" rear in the next few days, and hopefully next week will get it and the flip kit installed... we'll see how the weather holds...

Thanks man! I'm going to try and use these mounts that came with my 455 - they are from the 76 Delta it came out of... My engine should be ready in a couple of weeks, supposed to make over 500+ foot pounds of torque from about 1500-3500 rpm or so, that's nuts and if I would ever get all the parts I could just bolt it all together and go HAHA

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
OK,
Got rear springs and the 9" in, and the lift kit all assembled, just stuck the tires on there for now to be able to roll it around, damn those things are wide... Decided to go with rear disc brakes... Will work on the front steering linkage etc. this week. Getting closer

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
Lookin good man!. Got to love those 295-50's. Can't wait to get mine back on. Looks like you might have plenty of room for your lower rear shock mount bolt. My shock mount is right up against the lowering plate of the flip kit. Post up a nice side shot of the rolling chassis with those wheels on.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
Update:
took the U-bolts that came with the flip kit and changed them out with the stainless steel ones that came from Totally Stainless today, they are stronger, and much shorter so they don't hang down under the truck as much... looking around for a rear disc brake kit, will see how that goes over the next few days... Will put the steering linkage in tomorrow, then i'll run brake lines etc. etc. and all i'll need then is my engine, so I can do the hard stuff

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
Dang!!! nice!! It almost looks like a Formula 1 car with that stance and those tires. It's coming together.
You will have to find a pair of used tires you can throw on and burn up with that motor, trans and rear end! |

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
Also wanted to ask a question...
I know a lot of folks like to keep the old patina paint look on their vehicles, and not paint them... Since I decided to paint mine, and my body panels are basically straight like they are, with a few dings here and there... I was thinking of not putting any body filler on my truck, and just keeping it like it is, dings etc. intact... Any thoughts?
