Well I have been driving Crustine Ever day. She's been running like a top! So....I figured I needed something to do on it and found this MSD box. It's an ignition control that gives off several sparks instead of one. Pretty cool, can't hurt to try it I don't think!

Thanks, got some spiral core plug wires coming from O'reilys so I have to wait for those. Hoping it works well!

Hey guys! Wiring up my MSD box as I type. lol Quite a challenge wiring an MSD to a pertronix but I figured it out after a few hours of playing with it. She runs like a top! Can't wait to get it done so I can test run it!

You're going to miss that "unburned fuel" smell coming out of exhaust pipes.

lol! Didn't do to bad before either! Checked the plugs awhile back before I had installed the box and they were burning pretty darn clean. Gonna check them now and then gap them wider.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.

Well Crustine is gonna have her first "long" trip tomorrow(Saturday). Heading 40 miles to be in an all day car show. Supposed to be over 100 degrees and there may be no shade accept what we have for coverage. lol I am well stocked up on tools and have 4 spare quarts of oil. Just drained a few quarts this evening and refilled with straight 30 and a quart of lucas. Also gonna have spare water just in case. She tends to run at a quarter on the temp gauge so I think we'll be fine on the way up for sure...way back...she may get a bit warmer. haha Leaving at 6 AM sharp and meeting a buddy of mine in his 48 stude half way...then we're meeting another buddy of mine in his 65 gmc one ton burb and heading to the show. Wish us luck! Should be a great day. Will try an get lots of pictures.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.

Not as bad as you think. haha On the way back from the car show the engine lost power pulling a grade. My initial thought was ignition or fuel pump going out. Limped to the top and pulled over...sure enough it was vapor lock. The metal filter had fallen close to the exhaust manifold and was really hot. So I moved it away from the manifold and put a cold wet rag around it. Lucky I was half way home so she drove the rest of the way ok. It was over 100 degrees outside and she was running a tad bit hotter as it was her 1st long journey....but she never got past 190-200 the entire time. And while driving the engine was lower than 180. After I got home a freeze plug blew at the back head and drained most of the coolant on the ground. SO, since I needed to fix the plug which required the head to be removed I figured...Hell, Why not! Let's pull the darn motor and install new gaskets and reseal it. Boy was that a mistake...biggest pain in the butt I have had yet. I'm a find that engineer and kick him good. Anyhow, here are the pictures. The 305 will be resealed and painted either caddy red or detroit diesel green.

Gotta love idiot previous owners who can't drive a stick shift for their life. lol New clutch, pressure plate and hopefully a flywheel will be on their way as well. Notice the chunk of clutch missing...

From Car show to pulling engine, wow is appropriate!!! Will post update later today... Glad the V6 is getting a freshening up... ...and that clutch needed some attention, good timing on the issues... Nevertheless, hope the show was enjoyable even in the heat...

Thanks man. Yeah, anything can happen with these old things! The engine could use a light rebuild, but it runs and runs well so I am stopping at a reseal.

lol. Thought ya might get a jaw drop out of it. But it should be worth it in the long run as it won't be slinging oil out the rear main and all over the place. Plus for the next car show I can saw I Did something! haha! Pictures of the show will be uploaded onto another thread soon man.
