Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Got the drivers bench in yesterday and today drove it around the block! Oh man, what a difference in comfort from the old busted seat that was in there.

Comments please! (Except about the floor boards...those are next winter. Haha)

And a shot of the rebuilt and freshly painted seat frame

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Looking good

I had the same floor boards in my 49’ GMC long bed….. they came in real handy at the Foster Street Drive Inn Theater.

All I needed was a funnel & 20” of hose w/case of Oly’ and I was set for a double feature

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Took her out for her first drive this year. Couldn't wait to finish all the windows. Haha.

At this point I'm having a really hard time liking the black wheels with white hubcaps. I wish I had the chrome ones. I don't know what to do. If I paint them white then the whole tire will appear white, if I paint them body color I'll probably have to have paint mixed for something that will match.

Ideas?

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Yeah that is pretty sweet. Maybe I'll try out some rings and see. I think I just need to fork over the $200 for the chrome re-pop hubcaps. Maybe sell my set to recoup some of that. It's supposed to have the chrome caps anyways.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Got another window installed today. unfortunately, I cracked the forward glass when I was putting it into the frame. Dang it. I wasn't in the mood to pull it back apart and have another glass cut so it will do for now.
I also painted the center trim plate black to see how it looks. I kinda like it.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Going back to the wheel question Cort60,

I'm sure you have seen this truck before from Vintage Trucks magazine. I like the paint treatment and wide whitewalls that he used. I recently had some rims and caps powder coated white, but may go this direction too.

I do agree that all white would be too much for your rig.

I've never seen that truck before. I'd love to see the whole thing, it looks beautiful. Yeah I think I'm going to end up going body color on the wheels.

I like the black pillar also, it creates a nice silhouette of the window cut out.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Thought I'd update what I'm currently up to.

Have to get ready for a car show here in town in two weeks so today I took care of some needed little things like: changing oil, replacing canister oil filter housing with spin on housing, replacing temp sender, etc....

Then, I thought since I was at my work shop and we have industrial buffers, I took a shot at buffing out my 53 year old paint. And I am really happy that it shines so much. Now you can really see all of the dents!

Looks much better though.

Damn Cort,

First the pickup, now the Suburban! You have a new daily to replace the 78?
Is the 78 capable of towing the trailer over hill and dale?
As for the hood scoop I guess you could take some photos of it or something, not much use to you now.
Your going to have to change your avatar, cause you don't choke anything manually anymore...unless its your chicken!

True, actually I am in the beginning throws of restoring a 1963 17' Hydroswift that has an old Evinrude Starflite V-4, so I still get to choke that. Haha.

Not sure what I'll do with the hood scoop. Sad part is, I just had the bezel of it chromed and it looks so good! I guess I'll wait a little and throw it on ebay or something. It is only getting rarer and rarer.

The Squarebody tows the camper just fine. Almost every trip I've made in the camper has been behind the square. You just have to be patient, and on the hills just throw on the hazards and wait it out. Haha.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Cort,

I think the blacked out center bar makes the truck look longer, as it gives the appearance that the rear window is one big piece (from a distance).
I still think the back end needs to come up a little. I have always liked the look of these suburban's with a little nose low rake to them (2wd only of course!)
The wheels need to be a contrasting color from the whitewalls. Can you photo shop the wheels to body color and see what it would look like?

My 2 cents

Leave the rear alone and drop the front some more.
