Re: Grandpa's 72 restoration
Wow, has been a while since I last updated. Spent most of winter and spring finishing my shop but have had some time to finally get Old Blue on the road.
Recent big changes were new tires on the white steelies with chrome dog dishes. Completely rebuilt steering, I found out the gear box was shot and blew up the power steering pump. So new gear box, pump, idler, pitman, inner and out tie rods. Lastly swapped out quadrajet for Edelbrock AVS2, very happy with this carb. I'll spare all the little details about getting it running, but this truck runs great, drives and steers great, floats down the road without a single rattle, shake or pull. Smooth, quiet in cab, solid driver. Literally like a brand new truck. Need a little more fine tuning on carb and timing but this truck is basically "done". Just to enjoy and tinker on. |

Re: Grandpa's 72 restoration
Just a fabulous job overall. Well done.
I may have missed it in the thread, but may I ask what paint code you used? Is it the factory medium blue?, and did you go with a single stage? To me it looks like the original color Chevrolet used. Edit: I went to the first page and found your SPID which answered most of my questions.

Re: Grandpa's 72 restoration
Thanks guys, looking forward to many miles of smiles with this truck. Cornerstone, yes factory medium blue, 510 code. Single stage, paint and primer materials all bought through Napa, crossfire line, which is a cheaper line but I have been very happy with it. The truck looks a little dark in pics, but its a beautiful blue especially in the sunlight.
