Re: Newbie with a new build thread
Well if I do the wrap around part, I would extend the top part all the way down the door. That half round at the top of the wrap around part. The wrap around part would also become a permenant part of the door. I am going to try and find another arm wrest that is more of the 60's car stuff with some chrome and such.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
I think if you extended that 1/2 round down the length of the door like you said and maybe taper it down to nothing that would look killer. But then you'll have to mod your door panels too. But I'm sure you are aware of that. Truck's lookin good!

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
I agree a new arm rest would tie it together.
With the wraparound, the stock armrest doesn't look right. Maybe a custom one that extends between the handles and follows the bottom curve of the wraparound. Last edited by 71tahoe; 12-05-2008 at 08:54 AM. |

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
I need to find an armwrest that will look right. I am also not going to use the 61 impala steering wheel in this truck. I guess it will have to stick around for another project. Its just a little bigger than the stock one and thats not going to cut it. I need all the room I can get.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
The weather was outstanding today for December. I mostly cleaned my shop. I did however finish welding the bearclaw latches in. They have only been tacked in place for a year... My next step is going to be the fabrication of the fuel filler. I have not decided on its exact location as of yet. Its either going behind the tail light or the marker light. The tail light will keep the inside of the bed stock which is good with me. Sorry, no pictures this time.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
Another nice day today. Finished grinding the welds on the bear claw latches. Made a patch panel for the Edsel dash where the speaker used to be in the top. I also stared working on the ends of the dash. I think I have a game plan now and hope it turns out all right. I also welded some new metal in around where the steering column comes through the dash. I will have pictures soon.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
Here are some pictures of some of the other small stuff I worked on as well. I filled in the gap between the steering column and dash. Compare the next couple of pictures. Patch panel for top of dash made and tacked in. Also finished most of the welding up on the passenger side bearclaw latch. Still have a little to do.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
Thanks guys. I have been putting this off for long enough now. I had to work on something with all these new toys. It still needs some tweeking, but the idea it there. I will work the metal a bit more when I pull the dash back out finish the welding, assuming I can get it back out.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
It is now 1:50 in the morning and the driver side of the dash is almost complete. I still have to take the dash back out and finish welding it all up. I have some bracing I want to put in the middle as well. The stock truck dash supports around the steering column will have to be raised around a 1/4" or so or it will look dumb.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
My buddie has these sitting around so I decided to try them on and see what they looked like, not the style I am after, but they fit well.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread
Here is a fast rendering of what I would like the truck to look like when its finished unless I change my mind, and that happens a lot.
