Taillights! Had to keep the old stuff, but make it work like new, bright stuff! Here's my old trailer lights that were on the truck. The lenses were junk, so I ran the numbers and found a new set of plastic ones for $12 that were the same size. I'm only showing one side, but I did both lights. First I pryed the tabs that held the license plate lens and gentle removed it. I then did a quickie mask job, scotchbrighted, cleaned and then poof canned the inside bright silver (makes everything reflect!) I then cleaned and reinstalled the license lens Here's the original pigtail and the new one that I took from the new housing. I installed that with a new bulb , put the lens on and "TA DA!" really bright taillights!

Got the rear bumper on today, along with bolting the bed down. I'd noticed the hole in the center of the bumper that someone had done with a torch and decided to use that hole as my focus for helping out my fellow man! I thought what can I offer of myself when my fellow car/truck guys are in need? So here was my answer...

So tonight I decided to throw the front end on to check the fitment issues, and see if I needed to trim anymore of the inner fenders before I paint them. I had to take a couple pics ( I SOOOO have to get rid of the grey primer spot and wash it!) and soak up the moment!

Man, it's looking good! It'll look so much better after you finally get to wash it. We've got to figure out that primer spot on the rear fender, for sure.

Maybe somebody on this site has some old root beer brown lacquer that they've had on their shelf for the past 30 years. Mix it with some flattener, shoot it on and then scotchbrite it.

Off topic, but important none the less:... Bakersfield is on Oct 15-17. Best event of the year!

Tailgate chains... When I bought the truck, it had one chain on the tailgate. I needed a set, but all I could find were new ones and that wasn't what I wanted. I found a set from a 69 Chevy truck on Ebay for $3, COOL! The newer (67-72) chains are different from the old ones, so I cut the loop off with my die grinder, heated the straight piece till it was nice and red and bent it to match the hook of the early style. I had my stepson save a couple of old 20" bike tubes for me and cut them down for chain protectors (no rattles!)

The bed... Found some 3/4" plywood at my neighbors that he told me I could have. Was in ok shape, except for some minor staining (cool!) After cutting it to length and the wheel openings, I knocked it down smooth with my buffer and some 80 grit Taking the idea of my friend Billy, I took a chain to the wood and beat the crap out of it to give it a distressed look A little gunstock brown stain, drenching it Thompsons water seal it still looks really old, but is now waterproof too. Set it in the bed to drill the mounting holes, but figured I'd show it ice chest and all...

Before I finished up bolting the bed down, I needed to figure out my fuel filler. I was going to do the out the back thing, but didn't want to take the strength from the rear of the bed. An old piece of muffler tubing to make the corner and a piece of 2" fuel connector line and it should work. I took the inner fenders I picked up at last years Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield for $10, trimmed off 2" from the side and an 1 1/2" from the bottom I welded some small shelf brackets to the parimeter edge of the fender poofed a little undercoat and riveted it to the bedsides and screwed it to the wood. Before they went on, I sprayed some Rustoleum dark brown semi-gloss to tie it in. I then masked off a nice clean line, ran a bead of black silicone around it to seal the water out and here it is

I scored a chunk of 2" channel and a piece of 2"x1/4" from my friend Alex and used them to make my front fender supports. After getting the fenders and hood lined up, I measured, drilled and welded my brackets to bolt to the front of the inner fenders. This pic was before I drilled the frame holes There's a couple holes on the side of the frame to access bolting everything together. These will get sandblasted and painted before final install. The lower radiator supports were already built, but I need to finish the upper ones. I used the top bolt for the front end support to build my brackets to. Some 1"x1/8" bent up to go around the ends of the radiator and a piece of 1"x1/4" for the side was all I needed. I tacked them in place, then unbolted them to blast and paint with the lowers. I'm getting closer!!!

Picked up my wiring harness off Ebay. EZ Wire 12 circuit (no need for power window or any other extra stuff) came complete with switches (ignition, headlight, high beam and wiper) for $215 shipped! Smokin' deal!

I love how you did the bed. Do you have any more pictures of how you did it? And what did you get those wheel wells off of?
