Re: 56 project
Wow, That's amazing work. I'm just doing all of my sound system. I just installed the big sub box behind the stock seat today. Next I'm going to start filling in all of the vacancies left over.
Keep up the awesome work!! |

Re: 56 project
Thanks again, heres some of this weekend. Finished clearing my bed floor, waiting for the SS strips from Mar-k. Got my blinkers working, needed to add a resistor for more load, and painted my step surround and console trim, and my windsheild wiper covers. OH yea thats what those pics of the guitar pick looking things are. AND I'll have my insurance and tag by tuesday!!!.

Do you have any more pics on how you built your tilt hood? I want to do the same to mine but cringe at paying what they're asking for a kit. I just don't see that much metal or work to make one up. If you have any dimensions I would really appreciate it. Kim |

Re: 56 project
Kim I can take more pics for you this weekend. When I did mine I used Cals as the model, and just went off reference points. I then added extra mounting points. If you look the cross bar that bolts to the hood has extra attachment point to the hood brace. If I were to do it again some of the things I would change is, on that cross bar ends instead of welding the tabs run the square tube to the end and cut it at a 45. Also add gussets at the vertical supports. Another important thing is the slides bolted to the firewall .If the angle is not steep enough or not high enough the corners of the hood will hit the top of the fenders. Custom classic trucks or Classic trucks has a install write up in their tech section.

Re: 56 project
To let you guys know you don't need to break the bank for your carpet. I went to a carpet store and found a leftover peice of indoor/outdoor carpet. It was 3' wide by 20'long. That with padding was 30.00. And by letting the guys there know what I useing it for they did all the edge binding for free. Also the bed floor was made using 4x8 finish grade plywood at Lowes 44.00. The strips are from mar-k can"t beat the price at 20.00 each for polished SS. Now for the polished ss carrage bolts they wanted 1.00 each which is not bad. I found the same bolts not polished at Fastenall ,11.00 for a bag of 50. I spent 30mins on the buffer to polish the bolts.

Re: 56 project
candyx, The trim strips are made of 1,1/2" emt that I cut in half with a 4,1/2 grinder and cutoff wheel. It does take some time to miter the corners but it's worth it. I was going to have them power coated but they wanted 75.00 each.

Re: 56 project
Absolutely love your truck, great work. how much clearance do you have between front tires and fender lip? do you have any pics of it at ride height where it won't rub? what is your front wheel backspacing? sorry for all the questions but I see so many of these clipped TF trucks bagged but most have to be raised considerably to drive without rubbing, I am in the process of narrowing the camaro clip in my own truck cause I want to be able to drive it as low as possible.

Re: 56 project
rockers are around 4" at ride hight. I don't remember the offset, I did roll my inner fender lip for clearance. The only time I have ever rubbed was riding really low and making a hard u turn

Re: 56 project
I would think twice about narrowing the clip. Mine is a 70 camaro and I set the 56 frame on top the sub which gives a little more drop. Like zeeing the frame. If I rember I think my offset is 6" on an 8" rim.

Re: 56 project
Thanks, my clip is mounted the same way, it's tacked in place currently, but i have 1.5" less backspace (3"total) than you do, i have plenty of room on the inside of the tires to work with. i am looking at taking an inch off each control arm and then if that still rubs possibly cut from the crossmember center , i made the mistake of ordering wheels based on others builds rather than doing my own measuring to get the wheels centered , and since i'm already invested in the tires/wheels i must narrow it at this point, In hindsight i should have just gone with the mustang 2 stuff but it is too $$, i've driven/built several lowered cars but all were static drops, so on this one i decided to try bags just to get the crossmember up over speed bumps and such but want to drive it dropped (3-4" at the rocker).
