Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

Just start cutting.
I always thought your truck was in better condition than mine. There are ALot of threads on this site about cab reapair.
I had my old man, who restored a 1975 gmc sierras cab. I did all the work on my chevy tho.
I couldn't wait to start cutting ha.
Bushings? My trad bar runs good. It has brand new bushings.

Oh i didnt know. My truck has alot of body roll around turns. Would the bar help? Ah my truck just looks good in the pic. Right now it looks like poo. Muddy dirty muddy dirty windows and now a broken rear window (barely, my buds wheeler rolled into my glass!). Dont let the bondo and spray glue lead you on lol.

just start cutting huh. did it take along time to do it? It looks REALLY good. I wished ya lived closer you'd REALLY have me talked into it.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

The Chevy II is coming along slowly. I'm being really finicky about setting up the trailing arm rear suspension. So, that's holding up progress, but I'm pretty convinced I'll be happy with it when all is said and done.

And I just looked at that 4 door. That's not a bad looking little Nova - it'd be fun. haha.

Goose, honestly, just start cutting and welding. I knew how to weld going into my truck progress, but the only thing that'll make you better is practice. So, start chopping and welding. Whats the worst that can happen? You cut it out and start over. It's JUST metal.

Check out the link in my build for some rust repairs. If I could do it all over again, I'd do a better job. But for the time being, she's holding her own.

Yeah just make sure you butt weld everything, and make sure to cut out all of the rust and clean everything up. just start cutting rust out. also if you going to cut it like i did and just drop the floor and rocker at one time. make sure to brace the door with a piece of steel. so your door jamb and gaps line up afterwards. i didnt and now my door gaps are alll wack ahha but oh well.
idk what else to say.
just jump into it. its your truck if you mess it up no ones gonna yell at ya. remember to have fun!

and baddly welded in steel or any kind of patching is better than rust! is what i always would think to myself.

You think shes looking pretty bad as?

I hear you man. Old School hotrodding isn't very big up here - but there are a few people who get it. I really just dig the vibe of your truck.

And you're exactly right. It's your truck. Have fun with it! We're young. We're supposed to drive our "hot rods", if you will, that aren't perfect. If they were perfect, we'd feel bad for beating the snot out of them. Because you're never going to look back and say, "Gosh, I'm sure glad I spent countless years and dollars on making it perfect, so that it can sit in my garage."

Just my opinion. Build it, break it, fix it, repeat.

thanks. she aint pretty but she sure is mean.

yeah must be because all the nice old cars like to rust on our great salty roads we have up here.
Hot rods I didnt build my truck to be a garage ordament ahah its meant to be drivin.
I like your opinion.
and i do like my hot rod rat rod or whatever you wanna call it. its what i always wanted. and i can always improve on it if i want to.

i really want to change the 250 tho and put in a 350. this 250 doesn't have any power off the line. ill rev her up pretty good and dump the clutch and she doesn't have any power just boggs no matter how much juice i give her. any tips on what i could do to improve that. i was thinking about asking my shop teacher. is is that because i only have a short straight pipe would a muffler help.

plus 350s just sound better and then no one at my school could talk about how wimpy this thing is. with that inline in there.

but here are a few pics. of the rat rod.
where the bed is. gotta get moving springs a coming.

just a pic of the bad girl.

and a wily coyote that my dad found in the ditch

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

Sadly, it IS only a stock 250. They're dead reliable, easy to work on, and make decent power stock. But, even with a stock 350, you're already ahead 100 inches, better flowing heads, and more carb and exhaust than with the 250. To make a 6 run, it needs a hair more work than a V8.

With that being said, even my stock 307 with headers can pull some rubber, and thats with 3.07's out back.

And, since we do live when the only sound that matters seems to be a bent 8, a 350 isn't a bad choice. It'll drop right in, and then you'll have that sound, plus a bit more power.

Don't you have a Blazer you can steal the 350 out of.

-Sam.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

i just took her for a drive
the 250 deosnt run bad at all. runs really good. plunty of power once she gets moving. just nothing off the start. and it needs exhaust.

if i pulled the six i could do something to it. hot rod it up. id keep it tho. but for now a 350 sounds pretty good.
and yes i do have one i could steal out of a blazer. and i have a complete 350 laying in the yard that threw a rod and broke the cam shaft. i dont know if it will ever run again tho. and that is the motor came out of the blazer. i installed the 350 that runs in the blazer last year. my dad got it a lot of years ago for 100 bucks. and the thing runs strong. it just sits upnorth now. but i drove that blazer up there and its hard to get it back. but i have been thinking about putting it in the c10 for awhile. it has headers and cherry bombs to so i wouldn't have to find exhaust.
i have to work on it.
==== and there is a 350 in the truck that is in my aviator a 69 block .... REBUILD? ahah how much is a rebuild for a block like that. i have a manuel on 350 sbc rebuilds.
hmmmm

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

A simple overhaul on a 350 might take you a long weekend. Lol. They're pretty simple. About 100 bucks to get it bored out, some .030 over pistons...you could have less than 500 tied up in a rebuild, and be making some pretty decent power.

As for the intake, it depends on the heads, I believe. But, it *should* work.

Otherwise, check Craigslist. You can prolly grab a ex-stock car motor or a built up stroker for a couple hundred. But from the sounds of it, you have quite a few motors to play with, if for nothing else by rebuildable cores.

edit: as far as machining, for a quick and dirty rebuild, if it *needs* to be bored out, do that. Otherwise new cam bearings, and maybe deck the block (pending if it isn't true, etc). Aside from that, I'd try to make one of them run first if at all possible. my 307 is getting tired, eating oil, etc. but it still puts out enough power to scoot around. Especially if you're short on cash like the rest of us, a running tired engine is better than a half built healthy one for the time being.
-Sam.
