We're going to be neck & neck here..... "LOL" I'm working on wiring also. Got a call yesterday from Gary Tayman, my radio is done and it's on it's way back. Hope to have it for the weekend !

That's great Gary! Glad to hear your back to it after the ailment. I took a mini vacation from the wiring to hang some panels and figure out what I am going to do with bumpers. Today I am back to wiring. I have found that I am constantly getting halted by needing little things. A clip for this, special bolt for that, the right gauge and color wire for this circuit. etc. etc. It's killin me. I have about another day or so to button up the loose ends in the cab then once the inner fenders are mounted I can finish the engine wiring which will be minimal since it's all under the dash. then last but not least, the front headlight harness.

Keep plugging away!!

I have the same issue with the little things I need, but I do have a 72 truck & a 70 cab out in the yard to steal parts from or to look how something goes back together !

At this point I'm just taking my time and doing it right. I'm in no rush, I look at it this way, "I have all winter to get it done" Plan to be driving it next summer !

A few more odds and ends. I ordered a marine grade power outlet and installed in the console.


I had to order some 12 gauge orange wire to finish wiring in the cab so figured I would button up some miscellaneous items.

After assembling and reading instructions for mounting I realized my hood latch never made the trip to Maryland. So I have to call the body shop in Montana to see if they have it. I got my bumpers back from bead blasting and they turned out good. They were not able to get all the chrome off so I spent most of friday with an engle grinder taking it off. I now have the task of evening the metal so I can get it relatively smooth. It's gone take a lot of sanding.


Last but not least, I just received my harness plate from Mcbassin. Excellent little piece. Thanks Mike. Can't wait to install it.

I have a few jobs next week so progress will have to wait until the later half of the week.

Hey Chris, I'm glad I found your build. You have done an excellent job on everything. Very well planned and executed. I'm looking forward to following along till the end.

You probably already have it figure out how to install the little plates, but I just made some paper templets of both halves on mine then transferred the holes to the metal.
Your placement of the bulkhead wires is much better than where I put mine. It was a major paint to get the screws in mine.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks Mike! I appreciate your comments. This whole ordeal has turned out to be the most fun I have had in a long time. The past 2 years have been great since getting her home to Maryland. Learned so much, watched my dream come to true of doing a ground up after to other failed restoration projects and met many cool people along the way.

The plate is awesome! Very nice piece. I was looking at it last night and hoping it will work. Thanks for polishing BTW. The harness hole is drilled with a little bit of a radius as the firewall turns in at the inner edge of the hole. So basically there is a little bit of a bend. I need to get the fender back off then get to installing it.

After 2 full days working on the front bumper, I decided to take a break and do some wiring. I was able to get the motor fuse block wired into the harness.


I used the accessories connector inside the cab and wired in the constant 12V and ignition 12 volt from those circuits. I also tied in the electric fuel pump and utilized the accessories circuits for inner cab uses like powering the accessory outlet I installed in the console and powering the check engine light etc. After getting everything tied in and organized this is what I ended up with for wiring under the ECM.

It turned out pretty clean. One of the major hurdles was the OBD2 port was attached to the engine harness fuse block and would not have been accessible. So I extended the wires for the OBD2 port and located it under the dash just to the right of the drivers right knee.

I need to get the speaker wires run and tac soldered up then I will be pretty much done in the cab.

Thanks Swamp Rat. Little by little she is coming together. I am taking your advise and going slow, trying to think about all the variables before doing anything. Especially with a resto-mod type build, one bad idea can screw up a lot of things.

Wiring is coming along very nicely, but makes me glad I'm going pretty much stock on mine - at least for now!

Yesterday I got a lot of wiring done. OBDII port is wired and bolted under dash.

Jumper for tac signal soldered up and on tac gauge.


I created a battery BUS so I can hook up amp, power outlets and power the check engine light. It may also come in handy for other stuff if added later.

I also finished all the wiring under the gauge cluster.

I also received my 1.5" harness clamps today so I can route my engine harness securely.

So at this point I just need to finish the stereo wiring and one of the courtesy lights to wrap up the cab. All in all not to bad. Just a ton of odds and ends that kept holding me up.
Now for the stereo. I did metal work on the doors to eliminate the holes that existed. I prefer sound from the doors not behind the seats, but really want to leave the doors alone. So I guess I will find a solution for behind the seats. Today I plan on draining the coolant, installing heater hoses and refilling. Getting the courtesy lights finished up and making a plan for the rear speakers. More to come.

Today was a productive day. I pulled the radiator to center the core support and while I was at it mounted the evaporator and AC lines thru the core support.


Installed the heater hoses and control valve.

Installed the steering column now that all the wiring behind it is done.

and while I was installing the column on the motor side, decided to put in the brake lines that run to the master cylinder.
Not sure where to secure them on frame, but i'll figure something out. If anybody has pics of their lines that would be super helpful.

I had to paint some parts for the steering column so while they dried, decided to finish up the front bumper prep. I think it turned out nice. Gonna look good with clear coat. All in I think I have about a full week of sanding grinding on the bumper. Might seem like a waste of time, but for something different It was worth it for me. The back bumper shouldn't be nearly as bad because it was painted not chromed. I just have to smooth and brush it.


I'm literally waiting on 2 connector to finish up the cab wiring. I can then get the gauge cluster installed and start wiring under the hood. I shouldn't have much wiring under the hood at all. Just a few sending units, the starter and perhaps power for the windshield washer pump? Not to shabby. It's really coming down to the end of the build. After I get everything battened down I still need an alignment, exhaust and wheels/tires, but that won't take long at all. I suspect i will be chasing down a few issues once I get Reno on the road and jumping around like i do there's bound to be a few loose bolts.

everything looks top notch. very nice!

its funny the amount of time you can spend on some stuff. i think that bumper looks sweet, and time well spent. sometimes it is nice to have a project that is just time, not much money. makes it feel like progress without the pain. haha there are a few different things on mine that are only there because i didnt have much truck money but i did have time.

I ran my brake lines on either side of an existing hole on the frame so I could clamp them as shown in the picture.

Hey thanks Gary! I was trying to buy the clip from inline tube as they have one clip for two different sized lines, but their site keeps giving me error messages. If the site isn't fixed today then I will gladly take you up on some clips. No sense wasting them. I could paypal you some $$ for a couple of them.
