Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Well as of yesterday, Dunday May 13, 2012, I am a high school graduate!!!
Now I don't have anything getting in the way of me and my truck! (until I have to get a summer job to pay for it lol)

Well I haven't got much done recently, but I've started accumulating some minor parts and painting up some new ones and sandblasting and painting some old ones.
First here's a picture of my new rotors made for a 91 camaro 1LE performance package. Same measurements all around and uses the same bearings. Only difference would be the 5x4.75 bolt pattern, which opens up my wheel choices. Here they are after I painted them.
I'm getting adapters for the rear. Any suggestions on where to get them?

I also painted up my oil pan and some interior parts, then I painted, then baked on the paint on my exhaust manifolds. Heres a before and after. Now they're both done.

Word of advice, don't use your moms oven to heat cure exhaust paint. It turns out it makes them very, very unhappy. Lol

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

I just got done reading your entire build, Your welding has improved 100%, good job there. And your truck is coming out awsome, can't wait to see it on the road. You will deffently enjoy it more cause you built it yourself, there is always more pride in that. Keep up the good work i'm really enjoying your build.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Thanks Texas truck junky! I really appreciate the praise.

Kev2809: I'm still assembling my engine and I don't even have a dipstick tube yet. But have you thought about the braided flex dipstick tubes like you can get for a transmission?

I got my newly painted front suspension almost all reassembled minus a few little things. *I got new upper control arm bushings and all new upper an lower ball joints. Then I got my new camaro 1LE rotors installed.
*

Here's the reason I swapped to the camaro rotors.*
My buddy and I worked out a deal and I ended up with these: d'vinci Lox 22x9 rims with pretty good *265/35/22 tires. They're about 29"tall. Which is an inch or so taller. I need to do a little inner fender trimming which I expected. * *After that I should be able to drop another 5-6".

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Yeah the cowl hood is fiberglass. I think earlier in my build I said something about it. I traded this older lady who ha just bought a square body suburban with the cowl hood straight across for my stock hood if I painted it the one I gave to her. But the cowl hood doesn't fit quite like I like. It's a little bowed in the middle and sticks about a 1/4" above the fenders.

I do have the sectioned crossmember in, but my new upper ball joints are binding and won't let me go down as much as before.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Cool build. Question about the front rotors. I don't know anything about the 1LE package. Are these rotors different than a standard '91 camaro rotor? Where did you buy the rotors? I would like to do the same. I assume you are using the rest of the stock 81 truck calipers and pads?

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

it's looking really low....you have to do the pie cuts! i think you cut slits near the upper ball joint let your truck sit naturally then weld the slits back. i think its done while everything is still together. luifer76 can help you with pics im sure

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Shady Chevy the 1le rotors I think are thicker than regular camaro rotors. I just got them from autozone. But at autozone they are listed as camaro performance rotors or something like that. But you should be able to order them anywhere. You still use the stock truck bearings, calipers and pads.

Luifer it would be great if you could take some pictures of the pie cuts for me. I'd really appreciate it.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

That would be kool camaro rotors up front, and a late model disk brake rear. wheel options would be a lot better, and easier to find.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

On the front rotors: I called around to local parts stores and you are right. They list them as 91 camaro "performance option" rotors. I think I am going to try this on my truck. Now, I wonder how the width of the camaro rear compares with the truck? How many of the camaro's had rear disk brakes?

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

For the rears I am just using adapters. I used wheeladapter.com. Great service! I emailed them and within 30 minutes the owner called me. He's an older gentleman but he called me and we just talked for half an hour just about life, and boy does he have an interesting one. He used to be a world reknown race car driver back in the day. He's really knowledgable and he will make you any size/pattern/thickness adapters you need from scratch. Well worth the 150 bucks I think.

But the camaro rear end would be cool. I've heard something about using 4x4 s10 rears before. But don't hold me to that. Lol

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

hey maxxy, just a question about the sectioned x-member, did you have to modify any brackets once fitted like the upper arm bracket because on mine if I was to section it, it would mean that the bolt holes would be above the frame??

Steve
P.S......Awsome build by the way

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Thanks Steve! I sectioned it 1.25" so I didn't need to make any brackets. It was really really close though. I just bolted it in with the 3 bolts per side on the bottom of the frame, marked through the side bracket holes, then re drilled. One hole on each side was so close that I couldnt use the factory washers on the inside.
