Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Worked on the body work some, finished welding up the rocker and cab corner. I ground down the welds and slapped some bondo glass over the seams. I also painted the dash black and installed the AC condensor. I started stripping down the rad support and replaced some rotted metal on the pass bottom.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Did a little more body work, fitted the doors and the front end to see how everything aligned, had to work the lh fender a little but i thought it fit pretty good considering it was made in taiwan. I still need to fit the inner fenders and hood, i will bag all of my shims to speed up the final assembly once paint and everything is done. Tomorrow i should get my firewall pad so i can work on the firewall and running all of the wiring in it.

You're flying on this truck!

Looks really good & coming back together is the best part! I like how that undercoating turned out under the cab.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

I got the hood installed, gave me a bit to get the dr side to work, i had to ground out the hood hinge mounting holes to get it to go down all the way. I also started with the wiring installation, i got the wiring in the cab pretty much done. It took a bit to comb through all the un-necessary stuff from the burban. I also installed the new fire wall, boy did that thing fit bad, but its in. I also installed the 4wd shifter, it is realy comming along. I stopped at the parts store and picked up the primer, paint, gun, and some sand paper. I am hoping to have it primer on saturday.

Hey where did that ugly brown hood come from. I recognize it. Things are really coming together! Looks good. How much space you have from the top of tire to the top of wheel well.

Gabriel, i was just thinking of leaving the hood the way it is and putting your initials on it. There is an orange color under the brown i saw in a couple of spots.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Well all i did was work on wiring, what a pain the under hood back behind the distributor. That and still weeding through the unnecessay wiring and then having to mod some of it to work. Hopefully i will finish up the wiring, the fitting of the front end and then start the disassembly.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Today i finished fitting the front end, put the wheel wells in and made some adjustments, then i pulled the front end back off. I cleaned up the hood, the rad support, the wheel wells, the rad holder, the battery box and sprayed them with some paint. I finished wiring the fuel pump, it now runs for a few seconds when the key is on, after 3 checks it started spraying fuel not bad since all the lines are new and were dry. Cleaned up some of the grounds, its not cranking over very well, maybe my battery is bad, or my started is going. I also installed the heater box under the dash and cleaned the inside of the fenders and tried out the new paint gun i bought and sprayed some of the blue to the inside of the fenders. The paint gun works pretty good.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Man that truck is looking good! I like the bed liner you put on the underside of the floor pan. Watching the progress on this truck is motivating me to work on my truck. I've got a 71. After I get it on the road, I'm thinking about doing some body work. It needs new rockers and cab corners mainly, and a few other things.

Keep up the good work!

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Thanks jbwolfe. Today my brother was able to help me out. We got the TBI overhauled with some of the ultimate mods done. Wired the o2 sensors, installed the rad support, radiator, fixed some ground wires, got the starter working. We decided to fire it up, at first it just sputtered then we lost a connection and power. We found the ecm 1 fuse was loose / corroded. We got that fixed and it fired right up. Set the timing and got the fuel pressure around 14 psi. The thing sounds great, also topped off the tranny, did not drive it but it seems to go into the gears and wants to run. I also sprayed some bed liner on the back of the cab inside, i figued with the tools and etc that will be thrown back there it will work better any ways. I think i will try to get some more body work done. I also seem to have a defective master cylinder, the front bleads good, but no pressure to the rear at all, even with the rear line off the MC.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Truck is comming along good, my brothers help was great. I installed the ducting in the cab for the heat/ac, hooked up the parking brake, did a bunch of wiring(guages, lights, radio, heater, brake controller). I had to install a new master cylinder the old one had to pressure to the rear brakes, they are now bled out and feel good. I put a cynder block on the floor and idled it out of the garage and turned it around and drove it back in. 1st and 2nd gear work and reverse, wont know the rest or get the fine tuning done until i can get it on the road. I did a little body work, hopefully will have it primed this weekend. Its really exciting having it fire right up and move. I have to do a little work with the valve steam seals they appear to be leaking and causing it to smoke some. Hopefully that will be an easy fix.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Well didnt get much done today, spent most of the day in town getting a few supplies for the body work and a few small things. I got the parking brake adjusted, stripped some more of the cab, and primed the outside of the fenders. I got a few parts in the mail, new carpet, bed repair panels, and new windshield and back glass weatherstripping.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

I got a little work done today, sanded down the fenders and made a few repairs to them. I got them looking good and then sprayed them with the blue paint, boy does it look good. Stripped down the cab a little more, wont be long now till i can get the cab done. I also tried installing the carpet i got from rock auto, its acc brand. The front did not fit well at all, about 1 inch too narrow. I called them and they are sending me another one.

More body work, your favorite part. You get to fixing the valves seals so its not burning oil anymore.

No i didnt, i got the new seals the other day. I have been trying to get caught up on the body work, dont like to leave bare metal exposed for too long. Hopefully this comming weekend will have the body in primer.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

I got the valve steam seals replaced on the dr side, will do the pass side tomorrow. I see the guy who changed the seals last time neglected to to put them in right, oh yeah that was me..... Must of been one of those days. That being said it should correct my smoking on startup.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Finished up changing the valve seals, got the lash adjustment done and the valve covers back on. I just need to finish up some of the brackets and install the cruise control unit. I really hope that solves the oil buring issue.
