The hose routing is pretty straightforward. The vent line is zip-tied right to the fill tube and they both route up through the same hole. Sorry, but I didn't take any pictures of the actual install prior to putting the cover on, but here's a couple of underneath shots showing the fill hose and vent tube. Hope this helps. I filled her up this morning, and the fill speed was just fine. Wish I could help the mileage of 7.3 mpg though! Ouch....

Wow, only 7.3 mpg Have been getting 10 mpg and thought that was bad.
Just have to remind ourselves they're not built for fuel economy!!!

Off to buy a running 71 K20 parts truck this morning. Here are a few pics.
Just plan on letting it sit for now. Will start it up and drive it around every now and then. Was happy it has a No Spin axle in it.

i am shooting for economy numbers close to 20 in mine. if i do everything right and drive nice i think i should get at least 20.

It is one of the worst shape 1971 trucks I have ever seen. No good body parts anywhere but it drives good. Cab is shot but frame looks good. Kinda feel sorry for it. Just might have caught the old resto fever today.

Potential with the frame and drive train.....oh ohhh

Could make this truck look sweet over a period of time.

Might have to start a new thread - The 71 K20 Ugly Truckling.

Now that you have an OEM type K20, build one for mileage. They can get 20+ and be worked.

What are the mods that get the mpg to 20?

The raptor liner is holding up so so litew8. Have scratched it a few times hauling things and then touched it up with the bedliner in a spray can.

Ordered a winch cover from Amazon.com for only $13 delivered. Seems to be pretty decent. Also got to play with the winch today. A neighbor asked if I would help him pull out 2 shrubs in his front yard. We had them both out in 10 to 15 mins. Sure beats digging.

Beautiful weather here today. Fired up the 69 Z and took it for a nice drive then parked it by the K20 for a pic.

Nice that your parts K20 has the original hubs. I hear you on the drivetrain- I picked up a 71 GMC K20 yesterday and was thinking it was just for parts but seems a shame to not find a body donor and get the late model running gear back on the road. Are you going to part it or restore it?

Vintage Windmill, Agree that it would be cool to get the ugly K20 on the road again. There are not many 71 & 72 3/4 ton 4wds on the road around here, plenty of 2wd but K20s are rare.

Since both time and money is a constraint right now, just going to let the ugly truckling sit for awhile but keep my eyes open for decent body parts. However, if drivetrain or engine breaks on the good K20, the ugly one will most likely be a parts donor.

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question about why we did not drill the holes prior to painting, BigRed76. Not sure. My buddy, Bill Price, did the paint job. It would save having to spot paint the holes if they were drilled before paint. Still very happy with how everything turned out.

Went to the Calvert Hall Classic Car Show today in Towson, MD. Was very happy when truck received a trophy for 1 of the top 25! The 2 year restoration project was definitely worth it. Trophy is already on the wall in the garage.

Taking the K20 to Ocean City's Endless Summer Car Cruise this Thursday through Sunday. Anybody else going?
