Re: The 1960 - 1966 Member Introductions
Very cool to be in contact with the original owner! I'm sure he can supply you with lots of stories about your truck. Wonder if you can somehow strip away the black paint to reveal his name & logo on the doors etc. That would be great to see! He may actually be able to provide you with some photos of the truck when he had it in service too. Looking forward to seeing your plans for your truck.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Member Introductions
Been lurking these forums for a while dreaming about finally starting my project my 1965 c10.
I bought this truck for $450 in the late 90's as a broke 20 something and had no money to do anything to it. PO put a 350 in it, took out the front springs and squashed the rear springs to lower it. Needless to say it rode like a tank before I parked it until further notice. Then marriage, house, kids, day care, family cars and more schooling put the the old chev on the back burner The good news is that is started up after all those years and so now the journey begins. Bad news? There is ton of work to be done to get this thing "finished". needs brakes, a new gas tank, a bed, springs, shocks and who knows what else. Well, the time is now and I fought for some truck money and found a friend that is helping me get my "Frankentruck" back on the road after sitting for almost a decade. My first projects I am hoping to do are Rear tank lowering springs disk brakes coversion (when I get the cash) My goal is to upgrade to it from yard ornament to fishing truck by the spring or beginning of summer... Any encouragement is welcome this seems a little daunting! lol Last edited by 65chevyguy; 02-20-2014 at 07:04 PM. Reason: picture resizing |

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Member Introductions
Howdy,
I'm Joe and I couldn't find a convertible miata to have a mid-life crisis so instead I picked up a 61 C10 SWB fleetside a year ago to frankentruck for my wife. Currently it has a 76 front suspension, power steering and brakes conversion and 72 GM 12 bolt I rebuilt with 3:73 gears and eaton posi. I modified backing plates from a 96 impala SS rearend and put the brakes on it so it has 4 wheel discs and park brake in the rotor hat. I have 350 with 327 heads and a 700r4 going in soon after I do some basic garage frame painting. The bed is shot, fenders need help, cab corners suck.... I'm excited at all of the learning opportunities that await me! (I'm a telco dork by trade so this is all new) I then decided I didn't have enough stuff to work on so I recently picked up a 66 C10 LWB fleetside that had been sitting since 2004. One family truck with original wood in the bed thanks to an ugly camper. Has a 283 in it and runs great after tire, battery, oil, gear lube, tranny fluid, blinker switch, headlights, water pump and radiator flush. That took about three days since I'm a tad OCD. "Fred" is now my daily driver and will get some fender repairs once "Marilyn" gets put back together. |

My names Bryce. I have been a big VW guy for a while now but I drove a 68 C10 in high school. Recently picked up a 66 C10 to serve as my new truck. Most of the time I drive beetles and buses but you have to have a truck!

What is the name brand of that toolbox? I've always wanted one for my truck because it's stamped steel sheet metal and oldschool.

New to this site, and just thought I would pop in and say hi instead of lurking forever. looks like a ton of info here I can use for my newly acquired 66 C10 fleetside short bed.
I will be doing an LS3/4L70E swap, restoring the interior and maybe doing a porterbuilt stage 2 setup. Get ready for the questions .. |

Nate Bonham from IL picked up a 66 GMC short fleet in KS couple months ago. Been fun project can't wait for spring to though the old bobbers and cafes in the back cruise it.

Having a couple spare engines meant you could have a new ride with a half hour engine swap. I can still tell the year just by looking at them. Alas, the recession of the early 90's cost me my coveted 57' convertible with semaphores and a hand crank wing nut on the crank pulley incase you left the radio on all night. Never went back to them when I got on my feet again thinking they were all rust buckets by then but really miss my 67' Karmen Ghia. I bought this 65' Chevy panel from a friend who just got it back from the paint shop. (not my color choice) I just said, "I always liked those years Chevy," and he said, "you want it?" I got it for the price of the paint job and it sat for 12 years in the garage until last year when I started to get off my but and see what it would take to get it on the road. A year and a half later I have (5) 60-66 Chevy trucks and have a habit stronger than the VW's of my youth.
