as prostreetc10 said, that's correct, just remember when you go to set the valves that that is firing position for # 6

Re: Camshafts..
It doesn't matter when adjusting the valves. There is a sequence you can use so you only have to turn the motor over a bare minimum. For me, I like to start on #1 and go 3, 5, 7, then hit the pass side. That's Just so I don't forget. The only problem with that is you wipe off the maximum cam lube before firing due to turning over excessive amounts of time. Not a problem with roller cams though! ;o)

Re: Camshafts..
That's the way most repair manuals tell you to do it with a stock camshaft. Performance camshafts due to their duration and lift need to be done at each cylinder.

Gary is, of course, right about using a different method than factory, but if you were to start in the wrong place (that is #6 when you thought you were on #1), not knowing exactly what you're doing, the adjustment would be wrong. it also helps when putting the distributor back in there are several methods. I've marked my damper at 90° intervals corresponding to TDC for each pair of cylinders, if I know where I'm starting, I know which is firing next on the damper

Re: Camshafts..
You probably really didn't need to do the rear main. Unless you confirmed that it was leaking. SBC's leak... from the front and rear. When they stop leaking oil... it means they're out.
