Re: 56 shop truck build
yeah these scoops come with a filter insert to male sure you aren't sucking to much crap into your engine. Plus, I think they add a little something to the engine bay. It's tough to find a cool looking breather to top it all off.
I have already looked at all the new ones online but I am in the market for a used one, maybe something with a few scratches or small dings in it. It'll fit right in with the rest of the build. My valve covers are finned aluminum all polished up from a 57 Bel Air and they have a couple small imperfections from years of use and abuse.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Gee Tim, I didn't even look to see where your are at! I had to google Flin Flon! I do good just to get around Houston without getting lost much less know where your town is! lol You're kind of in the middle of nowhere? You out to come down here to hot n humid Houston! no snow here! Well, good luck on the part!
Well, also depends on how high the bid goes~ amazes me sometimes about bidding on stuff, get it cheap or too much!

Re: 56 shop truck build
yeah we're a bit out of the way. It's a 4 hour drive to the closest major city of about 60,000 people. It's nice and secluded where we are which is nice for peace of mind, right in the heart of the Canadian shield. Which is why most of us are employed in the field of hard rock mining.
The winters are a bit harsh at times but we don't worry about hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, typhoons or any poisonous animals, so it's a decent trade off. We get some -40 days during the 7 months of winter and then have some smokey forest fire days in the summer, but all in all, it's a very scenic place to live.

Re: 56 shop truck build
we've driven all over North America for car shows. We even attended the first board get together in Indianapolis almost 10 years ago. What better vacation for a couple small kids than driving 32 hours each way to watch drag racing, take in a car show and meet some of the greatest people you'll ever want to meet.

Re: 56 shop truck build
right on man, I appreciate the offer. I was dealing on one that for sale on the Hamb but the guy wants $10 less than the cost of a brand new one. So I think I'll order one from Summit Racing at the same time I order my mufflers

Re: 56 shop truck build
not much in the way of progress over the past week. We took some time off to go camping and I got back to airbrushing part time so the truck is taking a back seat right now.
But here's a shot of it sitting in the shop last night, patiently waiting to go for a drive

Re: 56 shop truck build
I'd like to see some of your airbrushing? I found we need a break from our projects from time to time! The brain works at subconscious levels for creativity! (sounds good anyway!)

Re: 56 shop truck build
I've had to stop on the truck from time to time just to give that creative side of me a chance to break free again. A lot of people don't realize how quickly your brain loses that connection with your hands so when you take a break for a long period of time, it takes hours upon hours of time to get that muscle memory back so your fingers work in conjunction with your thoughts.
I owe it to my wife, she's the one that pulled me aside and told me I NEED to start painting again. I was getting so involved in the truck that my train of thought along with every bit of available cash I had, was going into the truck and I was forgetting the other side of me. So here is the first piece I've painted in a little over 2 months. A wolf and northern lights piece.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Wow that is nice. My wife is into Wolfs and Indian stuff. I would give anything to have that talent. If I lived closer I would be parked at your doorstep. Watching you paint.
My truck is going to be a dark purple like a grape and I would like to do something to it to make it pop. Rich My build http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=576185 |

Re: 56 shop truck build
this wolf piece is going to be the first of a 3 piece series that has to do with wildlife, nature and the northern lights. I enjoy painting it and people love buying it to hang in their homes so it's a win win.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Well we're moving onto the exhaust today. My new Magnaflow mufflers and pair of weld on tips showed up yesterday, a great anniversary gift from my wife. The exhaust is from an 82 Chevy 3/4 ton but was a new system that was removed after a very short running life. So we are going to cut it up and make it work for our application.

Re: 56 shop truck build
The pipes will run out in front of the rear tires. I bought a pair of weld on tips that go from the 2 1/2" pipe to 4" for some added pitch in the sound.
We haven't started on the exhaust yet but we did mount the hood last night. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 56 shop truck build
we rigged up some temporary exhaust so we could break the cam in this weekend. The timing and idle are now all set up and ready to go. The truck rolls in for full exhaust and government inspection on Friday afternoon. As soon as that's done, it'll be off to get the beast plated and take it out for a cruise
