Re: 68 c10 6.5 turbo diesel
Some updates. I got the seat done. I redid the foam and wrapped it in canvas so it would not sink into the springs. I also painted the whole seat frame and made a new adjuster cable.

More updates. I got the inner fender to fit around the exhaust on the right side. I also installed the EGT sensor in the down pipe.

man, this thing is moving along! One of these days I need to take pictures of the 6.5 I've been working on................ It doesn't have the cool factor this truck does though

If it's a 6.5 it's already cool.

Re: 68 c10 6.5 turbo diesel
So I found someone local finally selling a "running" 6.5 TD NV4500 (4x4)setup for a reasonable price. It is a 94 and he says is electronic injection. He said if I buy the combo then I can get what else I need off the truck that I will think I will need to swap it into my 88 GMC crew cab that I am converting to 4x4 and shortbed.
Any thoughts?

Re: 68 c10 6.5 turbo diesel
I think I would prefer the electronics to be honest. What specific reason is there to not use them? I personally have never had any problems with a 95+ diesel. I don't get it.

That is good news about the 6.2 stuff. I am not against going against purely mechanical but I don't have any of the stuff for it. All the electronic stuff will be coming with this engine.

Why would the pre-95 electric make less power? I am sorry I am trying to learn about diesels.

It is unlikely you have a P code. You have to make sure you get the right pump with the right ECM per code. I just don't see what you are trying to do really I might be missing something. I only went electronic because I wanted to get max power out of it not leave it stock. If I was going to leave it stock or even a mild boost I would have went mechanical like I was going to do. You want reliable and stock that all goes with mech. I still need to do some more tuning but I will be hoping for 300HP to the wheels when I am done. Don't think I am trying to sway you any which way. I am just trying to help from my own experiences.

Re: 68 c10 6.5 turbo diesel
Hey I am loving the advice!
I would hate to kill any power gains though just because I went mechanical. Cost is really driving the stock aspect at the moment. However, it is very possible I would want to try and squeeze out some extra in the future. I will have to check the VIN code to see what it is specifically. I had forgotten all about that. I just don't feel like I have the option to go pure mechanical b/c I wont have the stuff for it and it won't be easy to find locally or for a decent price.

All you need is the pump and they are cheaper then a DS4 pump. Mechanical list Pump Inj lines Throttle bracket Throttle cable all junkyard parts Electronic list Pump Inj lines PMD ECM Harness Throttle pedal Sensors IAT,MAP,ECT,BARO,CKP Boost control solenoid New prom whether going up or down. $$$ Most of this you have but might not be good. Might go out down the road. This is where the reliability comes in. The throttle pedal alone is $600.00. The last mech pump I bought with inj lines and throttle bracket was $30.00 from the junk yard. I would search for a mech pump first see what you can find. If all the ones you find are expensive then go electronic.

Re: 68 c10 6.5 turbo diesel
Update. I finished exhaust ceramic coated and wrapped. Installed the gauges boost, pyro, fuel pressure, and tach. I also have oil temp and intake temp but still need to mount them. I got door panels installed. I installed cruise control turn signal lever and new turn signal switch. I installed the VSS and worked last minute bugs out of the computer. Put a tune in it 50% more fuel and recurved timing maps and cold start reworked. I installed all new glow plugs. Painted and installed inner fenders. Reworked the intercooler lines and powder coated them. Got the ECM to read the VSS and with a couple of part swaps got it to read exactly the same as GPS mph. I also installed oil cooler and made new lines.

Re: 68 c10 6.5 turbo diesel
Looking good! I am supposed to go check out a 95 6.5 TD today. The last one fell through. This one is the Vin F model and is supposed to have 20k on a rebuild and an upgraded turbo. We will see I guess.
