Re: New old guy.

This 66 has been in the background for about a year. Needs to be timed, but when I reach in to turn the distributor on the 352..THERE IS NO DISTRIBUTOR WHERE IS SHOULD BE! (BARELY FUNNY?)[IMG][/IMG]

Re: New old guy.

Hey ya'll. Just picked up truck from good ol mechanic I finally found. Checked valve clearances, made minor adjustments, found bent part in tranny preventing kick down, and FINALLY got the Summit 750 carb to do it's job and changed break in oil at 180mi. Running very sweet. Put my foot in it at about 30mph and woo ee, it really takes off. Idles nice with just a little grumpyness. It still need so much to be presentable (in my opinion). Rear tires to mach the fronts and Crager SS 5 spoke chrome. (Or Americans) Very little travel until I c-notch. Tranny is kinda weak, he'll rebuild w mild shift kit for around 1100. Less if I take him tranny. The cheap Raptor Turbo muffs from O'Reillys are just good sounding. Im happy.

Re: New old guy.

Hey LE...when I realized how much all consuming that engine build was I just flat took a break from all of it. My mowing business is in full swing and I just had to put my time and energy there to get started for the summer. Maybe I already said, the motor started acting up at about 100mi. Missing, backfiring etc so its been at mechanics house for 2 weeks. Told him no hurry and gave him a list of about 10 things that needed attention. Interior/cargo lts, it starts in gear, oil pres ga leaking, things ive looked at but was having all kinds of bad luck....Anyhoo, I mow their lawn todday and will see wherre its at. Ill never relax until that motor is absolutely turn key, NOTHING funky so Im being patient. Since I mostly pay them by maintaing their properties, I understand when big cash jobs take priority. Im cool with it all.....I REALLY needed a break from the whole thing.

Re: New old guy.

I kind of feel bad for not letting all you who helped, know how its going. Its headed to muffler shop this week (my plan anyway). I welded a bunch of scrap pipe under it and its loud and alot of leak noise. One thing, I have an ignition interlock, gotta blow in it to start, as a result of a DUI 4 yrs ago. I has caused S LOT OF PROBLEMS with those who try to work on it. They dont do it right and it violates me, then wont start when they need to be starting and stopping etc etc, so Im still looking for someone good to check it all out. Bogs BAD when i give it any gas at all, then maybe a little back fire once in a while. I am very busy mowing, but there is money now to finish it up. Hope to show you new ex system in a week or so. Its so loud you cant tell whats going on. (little short turbo muff's exiting under truck and a lot of leaks)

Re: New old guy.

Everything takes time, that's why they are called projects, have a brother with quite a few DUI's, not a great way to get things done with that looming over you, but hopefully we learn from our past and continue on, he hasn't yet at 51, still hoping.

Re: New old guy.

Dropped er off at the muffler shop last evening. They will take off my crap and run duals out the back using the short, cheapo Turbo muffs that are on it. They are very short so any Flowmasters or similar that I might put on later will surely be longer and be able to be installed without major work. $250 w my mufflers and it would have been around $425 w name brand muffs. Last foot or so will be 3in., (i like the big pipe look) and I told them just wider than the lic plate. No spare in the rack and I'll probably lose that option now that I think about it. Ill post pic this afternoon.

Re: New old guy.

I like em. Silent compared to what I had under there but sounds very nasty. Motor seems quiet. I think I just need the right guy to time and do magic to that Summit 750 carb. CRAP..cant get pics to post. Got to wait for neighbor gal to walk me through it again. I tried

Re: New old guy.

If you can find some sleeves for those plug wires, it will help to keep them from getting burned.

Re: New old guy.

[IMG][/IMG]Maaaaybe you can see where I cut out frame for notch piece. I want my brother to weld it all up and put on boxed back side with his nice welder. Pipes may end up on front of rears. Or major rebending at muff shop. We'll see Son is removing pass side tank. It leaked and tank switch switch needed replaced. So so I'll go 140-170mi? on 16 gals?
