1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build

Well I purchased the HP adder for my engine yesterday... Got a deal on a Vortech V4Z model that is capable of 1450 HORSEPOWER!!!! - not in my truck.... thats insane!

MAX 2000 CFM and 32 Lbs of boost - Also a little bit insane... I will be running maybe 10 PSI boost maximum but that will still get my little 509 down the road in a hurry. I dont think anybody will be honking at me to move along!!!

The guy threw in an extra cog belt and smaller pulley (for racing) and a blow-through carb. Turned out to be a great deal. The whole system came off a 1969 Street Camaro 540" BBC running about 1000 HP at the rear end!!!

Street cars are not what they used to BE!!!! WOW!

Yea I am going away from the typical 15x15 wheel, I like the pro-touring look also. I would have liked to stay in the 18" diameter range but nobody is making a tire to fit the 15" width anymore without having NO sidewall.... the 30-35 series tires.... Like to stay 40-45 series minimum all around. These were the M/T 18" 5 stars I tried on it. They were 18" x 15" wide, but those tires are no longer available. So I'll probably be going with 20" x 15" in the rear and maybe 18" x 8" in the front.



Wheels and tires will be revealed soon.... after I get the motor and drive-train combo all happy (and paid for). They will probably be the last thing purchased because I have seen what 3-4 years of sitting around can do to rims and tires now.

So my engine mounts have gone back to the drawing board as we speak due mostly to this MONSTROSITY of a supercharger on the front end of the block. I thought I was only going to have to deal with an electrical water pump.





Mine is a cog belt design for the HD type supercharger, so its bigger. This representative motor in the pic is making 1000hp with alum heads and only 8.8 CR using some 118 race gas. Impressive!!!

So I ordered some LS mounts that have the tubes and urethane bushings already setup in them, I will modify these to fit my engine block brackets, then fit them up to the K member to push it all backwards.



cheapest on ebay I found priced at $59 - A bushing kit alone is $40!!!

Then Ill get a wheelbarrow and modify that firewall afterall !!!!

GEEEZ! I thought I was goin to have a healthy motor...That's goin to be a head snatcher there...Yea! I think your goin to need to recess the fire wall on this one and squeeze it in (there will be some head scratchin goin on.lol) but it can be done. Iam diffidently impressed , Nice motor!

If this guy can do it... hell ,you can.. note the fire pushed back about 4" or so just below the drip rail.

Yes mine is the 8.2 Litre GM Gen VI base block. It is a standard deck block. It has been bored to 4.5" for the pistons and the crank is a 4.0" stroke.

Thats some crazy stuff that guy puts together..... Not sure what it all does?

Yea I figure whatever I have to do to get it in will just have to be done. But that comes first then the rest of the truck can be built around that engine and drive-train placement.

WOW with all the new parts coming in, I gotta get some more work done on this thing. Got all my roll cage parts last week from ChassisWorks, motor mounts are here, radiator mounts are here, dash filler, .... time to get it going again after all this 'holiday' time off....

My body guy bailed on me cause he's just too busy with all the idiots crashing cars in this rainy weather. Insurance is much bigger business than hot rodding I guess! so may just end up being a primered rat truck for awhile.

Wow so sorry ptc just read your whole build. How did I not read about your sweet truck before, this thing will be a killer everywhere it goes. Building the truck around the motor and drive-train will work out just fine, It worked out for me.

I was originally going to go with a dart 400sbc and f1 prochrager, changed my mind. Neweraracecraft.com dudes name is kyle he is pretty knowledgable on prochargers and has good pricing on parts.

That should get you some "YA YA time" without any problems!!!!

I checked out the New Era site and they have some good info there. The ProCharger systems are real nice, just had to find a deal to make the $$$ work on mine. I should have mine next week hopefully!

good good, what gearing and center section did you go with? I have 29 inch tall tires, i went with 370 gears, moser housing and strange s trac center section and 35 spline moser axles. i read the s trac is holding strong, they have a couple slick tire cars doing wheelies and running 9's with no malfunction in a ton of passes.

The rear end is as purchased right now; Shortened Ford 9" rear housing, Auburn 3rd member, 31 Spline axles, 3:73 Gears spooled

Until Im ready to tear into that again on final assembly it will stay that way for now. Im going to be running a TH400 with all the planned upgrades to handle what will be going thru it like - Hughes transbrake valve body, high flow pump, dual feed direct modification, 34 element sprag, case saver/brace installed, HD center support with case ring, etc.

Ive got a set of slicks now for the track use, so hopefully it will hook up!
