Re: purgatorio

I apologize for not seeing this earlier if mentioned, but why not work on chunks yourself? Hey its at least an excuse to be able to buy tools if you don't have them...

At least that what I tell my wife...

Lol, I was thinking, my buddy likes to teach and I want to learn. Will make this truck mean even much more if I worked on it.

Where are you having the paint and body work finished?
All of this work was finished over the phone, you are very brave, and it is very rewarding !
If you are going to get some estimates on finishing the work (body & Paint) I would not blow it apart until you have hauled it around to some of the local body shops here in town, and get some info and thoughts

There are a few that are qualified to finish your project here in town.
The more they can see together the better chance you have of getting a "fair" price
I would be interested is seeing the truck before you send it on to its next journey

My 55 GMC has 70783 mi. and 99% is around town day and night and it is no harder to keep clean than the green 53

Re: purgatorio

I'm catching up on bills. This truck won't go anywhere for a long while. Gonna finish sanding the chassis and body to help my ocd lol. What I meant by not going to paint it black is that I'm not going to throw a 20000 dollar paint job on there. I'm not going to be one of those guys that puts 500 miles a year on their truck. I would love for you to come over and check it out no problem. Pm me

Re: purgatorio

I was curious about the front section of your frame..I never did see any under hood pics of it with the cab on...did they add any tube to tie the frame to the firewall/cab or did they leave it with only the 2 tube loops that support the suspension..the back half of the frame looks bulletproof but I wondered about the front holding up to the hp you originally wanted..

Re: purgatorio

Just the double tubing. Ive been thinking going to stick to around 600-700 horse. If I go all out with original plans I won't be done for another 5-7 years. I'm w regular joe with regular money lol

Re: purgatorio

Not a vey happy camper right now. I keep lifting the truck and hours later it's laying on the ground. I don't want that because the pinch welds in the front fenders hit the ground. Glad the tires are thick in the back, the metal was cuttin into the tire. The rear tires hit the tubs when fully deflated.../

Re: purgatorio

That sucks..stick some wood blocks under the frame when aired up..at least that'll keep it off the tires..then break out the soap and water..thanks for the front pics..that's close to the same way mine is going but I was concerned about frame twist with high hp..mine will be 500 plus but I'm thinking I may do more structure on the front of mine..

Re: purgatorio

You do make a good point, I'm running Mickey thompsons sportsman sr they don't stick. I don't think there would be much gram twist as I'll be spinning... But additional tubing wouldn't hurt it 🤔🤔

Re: purgatorio

Really love this view, reminds me of the vengeance Camaro. I want a bunmper in the front but only having one bumper throws me off. Any ideas?

Re: purgatorio

These trucks also came with rear bumpers.so you could do that..if you check out donanals project "plus five" he did a very nice split bumper on his truck with a hidden hitch...might give you some ideas..

Yea I love the bumpers. That idea is cool. I would make the two pieces shorter I think to show more of the chassis. Here's he kicker I opened up the bumper I ordered and it's a f****ng 54 rear bumper.. only person I blame is the fabricator for not opening things up in time...

Re: purgatorio

I had given some thought to using a 54 rear bumper on mine and flipping it upside down..then running the exhaust out under it..and making some exhaust tips that would fit the contour...but I've about changed my mind on that..something like this pic but imagine the shape of the tips following the contour..

Re: purgatorio

With a body that nice you could just clear over the metal instead of a paint job.

Is it possible for you to post a picture that shows the whole bumper and tailgate with the pipes below? I have a 54 that i was thinking about doing the same but wasn't sure if it would be a good look or terrible. I have a set of c6 vette tips that I was thinking of cramming in the center sort of as a homage to the engine in the truck.

Re: purgatorio

Here ya go steve...I'm not crazy about the round tips..I think it would look better with tips that follow the contour of the upside down bumper...
