Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Had mine in for a little minor plastic surgery. And by plastic, I mean sheet metal. Finally had the bed sides worked out at the back from where the old wraparound farmer bumper caved it in, and new front fender halves thanks to the old owner glued a patch panel over the rust. I'm going to have to figure out how to paint it to look more-or-less original now. Eeek! This is the first really major work I've ever had done to this truck in all the years I owned it. I was always scared to do it, and finally found a guy that I thought did a pretty good job.

Now I'm on a serious search to find some brackets to make my dual spotlights mount up right. Suggestions are certainly welcome!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

You may want to take a look at the following thread for the details of the job, and check with Bob at Accessoryland. He actually had a couple of outside and inside brackets available a few months ago.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=401449

The outside brackets are essential to the install. If the inside brackets are unavailable, the standard clamp type will work just fine as shown in the thread above. His website use to come up on a Google search but I'm not finding it now. I find two phone numbers listed: 563.556.5482 and 319.556.5482. (Perhaps they had a recent area code split).

It's a mom and pop outfit so he's a little slow to respond sometimes, but has always come through for me. I believe he is the only antique parts dealer with open access to the Unity warehouse and inventory.

Thanks! I called the guy, and he seemed pretty helpful. He's supposed to call me back later this week with the 4-11.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well the Right front fender on my gmc was toast, so we cut two fenders in half and used the good parts from each to make one good one....saved $250.00 and for rookies it turned out ok....let me know what you think.

after you enter the gallery just click on next in the upper middle of the screen, the pictures jump to the next page before you see the final result.

Yes, Because no one will see it you can resolder or put jumpers then a clear coat to seal the copper conduit. DO you need a plug/socket I have two spare that I will not be using.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Pulled the engine and front end out of my truck. Found out the reason my turbo 350 stopped shifting. The rubber vaccum line got against the exhaust and melted in two! So, now I have a good tranny along with the motor. Pulling the Engine, Transmission, and entire front suspension only took 3 hrs. I couldn't believe it wen that fast.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well I finally found a good Big Window Cab for my 1966 Factory 4WD.

The Cab has been setting down in El Cajon, CA since 2003 and hasnt been registered since 1993.

It is a 1964 Big Window C30 with Factory Gauges, Heater Delete and Radio Delete with all the original parts still in place.

We are going to pull all the rest apart and remove the body for Media Blasting this next week.

Once back from the Media Blasting we will do any needed metal work before it gets sealed in DP90.

This is the truck I am doing 1966 K20 Factory 4WD that I am adding 1 1/4 Ton D60 Front Axle and 1 ton Van 14 Bolt Rear Axle.

This is the Big Window Cab I am going to start with. I stripped the interior today, she came apart real easy.

She was left in Yellow Primer for 8 years in a guys back yard. I wish I could have found her 8 years ago as she would have been perfect.

She is real straight and almost completely rust free other then the small spots on the floors from setting so long without a back window.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Changed out my 1 1/2 inch dropped springs and replaced them with 2 inch dropped springs. Back when the front sheetmetal was still on it did not sit the way I wanted it to. So now it is lowered 4 1/2 inches in front instead of 4 inches. This is also the first big job my son helped me with. I hel the spring in place and let him operate the jack. Good day all around.

roughed out new gauge panel - 1/8" masonite base, plan to cover it with the same tan leather I'll use for door panels later, probably repaint the bezel a satin black

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

It’s great when you can involve your kids. My oldest son started in the garage early in life, passing wrenches or just hanging out. By the time he was 15 he had become such a dependable apprentice I’d have him button up the bottom of my engines and never needed to double check his work.
