Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I went out to get the VIN for my Bug It wasn't there. But there was a lot of dust. And I mean a LOT!. That car's been sitting in the desert for decades. So I sprayed some cleaner in the area where the VIN was supposed to be and what do you know. There it was. I also found the VIN in front but my old peepers can't read it. But I think I have enough for the DMV. We shall see.
I looked it up. My car was built in March of 1963.

I wrestled the rear bumper out of the back of the car which was a struggle. Like wrestling a fat chick over the last slice of pizza but I got it out.

I also found the rear license plate. The car was last registered in January 1983.
Almost 40 years ago. The old Bug's been sleeping a loooong time. But I now have a set of the original black license plates for the car.

I have it parked by my side fence which was a mistake because my neighbor likes to talk and he caught me and I got his life story for about the 15th time. That was an hour extra.

While we were out there a guy was honking. I guess that he didn't want to get out of his car because I had my dog. I asked him what he wanted.

"Do you want to sell that VW?' He smiled.

I politely turned him down. He seemed like a nice fella.

Here's a pic of the bumper. I didn't put it on because I'm going to pull the motor once I get the tags.

If that's the back yard, you can put up a 6' high cedar fence as a "wind brake", and a "wind break".

It's an acre and a half lot. That's a lot of lumber especially at todays prices. I'll just move the car.

My neighbors across the street put up what is probably the longest cedar fence I have ever seen on their property when they moved in.

They also put in a big greenhouse If the wind blows my direction it smells a little bit like skunk. Hmm. I wonder what they're growing in that greenhouse?

Yeah right I know. I know that smell. But they are very quiet neighbors. I've never had one problem with them. What do I care what they do.

I'm sure they're doing a public service and scraping up dead skunks from the middle of the road.

I have a neighbor who smokes that skunk weed. I smell that stuff at 6 AM sometimes.

My wife said that the fence was a legal requirement to grow it. It has to be out of sight. These people don't strike me as potheads. Not even close. They seem like a nice family. I believe that it is just a business for them. I've heard that you can make some very good money growing it legally ( for medical purposes). It got me to thinking about how tough it might be to get a permit myself. As long as it's legal why not make a couple bucks. I've got the space just sitting there doing nothing. I'd just have to spring for the fence and greenhouse and all the legal stuff. Some up front costs. But I can see how it might be a profitable venture. All done legally.

For once it might pay to live in California.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

$1467 for the whole shooting match isn't a bad deal at all and those are nice looking rims. That bird is going to sing.

You nailed it with the Cragar S/S's. The reason I've never had a set. They are EXPENSIVE!

I was looking to put a set on my Baja because I'm going for an old school look. But when I saw the prices I about had to call the paramedics.

The fender reminds me of a guy I knew. His dad woke him up and asked him what time he got home? (He had been out pretty much all night) But he said that he was back by 10:00

His dad said sure and asked him if could move his car because it was parked on the morning newspaper.

There is an unbelievable amount grown in my county, one of three making up the Emerald Triangle. I feel very lucky now to live in town, where it's not a problem. Years ago we looked for property out in the country, but nowadays your neighbors are probably growing, legal or not, and the stench can be deafening.

Put my truck work on hold last Saturday so the wife and I could take a hiking/fishing trip. Fishing was just OK but overall it was a great day. Hot and humid here, but it is summer in the south.

I look back at the people I had been around when I was Younger.

I paid more attention to them Than I did in School

I treasure their memories and that is what pushes me Forward.

I am just a little slow at going Forward

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I pulled my fishin boat up close to the shop to get it ready to maybe use this summer. It's not been used in over 7 yrs. It's been sitting out uncovered forever. The new tires I put on 5 yrs ago were both flat. The lights weren't working. And the inside was filthy. I spent most of the day scrubbing on it. I quit around 3 when the temp reached 100. And tomorrow I get to do the same with the outboard motors. I may be too tired to use it once I get it all ready to use again.

Never had a boat, but I remember being able to do that kind of work all day long, and get up and go the next day...

My neighbor has a jon boat with a motor on a trailer. When the weather gets warm I might see him out messing with it or the trailer, last year and this year. I have yet to see him take it out to the reservoir. Same with his snow plow. He picked one up, mounted it, and works on it. The past two winters when they are calling for a snow he'll get on it. It snows and there sets the plow on the ground. I have to hand it to him for all his effort. He's a working man with 4 young ones. He told me now it needs a pump.

Going at it all day long is one thing. Doing it outside in 100% heat with humidity is a whole 'nother thing. I can't take much of just sitting in 100* heat.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I had to relocate today. No fire this time. Just Edison shutting the power off again. I'm getting sick of these outages. About every 2 weeks there's another one. I've lost count as to how many. And they are all day long. Finish the dang job already!

I'm lucky that I've got another place. I feel for my neighbors that don't. It's a hot day and no air conditioning. Especially for the older folks.

And the business's that have to close. They are losing money and times are tough enough for them already.

I just realized that today is July 7th. My 40th wedding anniversary. Or it would have been. At least I don't have to buy her a present. Saved myself a couple of bucks there.

Snake River? Didn't Evel Knievel run into a little trouble there?

As far as camping. I have a 37 foot motorhome with two air conditioners, satellite TV, and a big comfy couch. That's about as close as I get to "roughing it'. I'm not too outdoorsy. I don't even do yard work anymore. I spent too many years working in the heat and rain. I'll just stay comfortably inside now. Let the young guys do that now.

I would like to see Idaho. I'd like to go all over the country. But my wife is still working. It's hard for her to get away. I could just go by myself. But she might get upset. Or maybe not. She just might pack my bags for me and tell me not to let the door hit me in the azz on the way out. It's happened before.

My anniversary...Yeah. (sigh) What can I say? I married a lunatic. Then turned around and married a worse one. Not to mention the psychotic girlfriends. I just seem to gravitate to crazy. I don't recommend it.

But I must say that I have had an interesting life. Not always good, but interesting.

In retrospect. Thinking about it in my later years. I wouldn't have done anything any different.

It could also be called stupidity. I've got that one covered.

One thing that sticks with me is when my brother died I was talking with his girlfriend and she said that he had said that he wished that he could have been more like me. He was a very structured disciplined person. I am not and never have been. We were total opposites. But we were brothers and got along very well. The funny thing is that I wished that I could have been more like him. We both were thinking the same thing. We both looked at each other and thought "I'd like to be like that'.

It blew me away when she said that. I would have never guessed.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

My brother and I are very different people, yet a definite course runs through us that bonds us. I was 15 when he was born, so we weren't kids together and didn't exactly grow up together. I had all sisters and always wanted a brother. Finally got one, but a bit late.
