Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I imagine if you talk to the DMV you can get the same type of deal as I have but yours sounds a little better. The difference is as long as the truck is mine I can use the manufacture plate without ever having the thing inspected. It's a cool deal but has its drawbacks. I will probably get another truck with modern registration to make up for it.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Continued swapping parts in the electrolysis tank, practiced welding, banged on fender trying to straighten it out.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Just moved the truck next to the 1940 Pontiac. Maybe now I can get the tranny out because the tires are not sunk into the ground. I need a concrete slab really badly.

Finally got the 327 to run the way it should. Now it's time to put a locker in it.

Is that one photo reversed or is your fuel tank opening on the left side?

Ah, '47 truck, I was thinking it had an in-cab tank as stock. One only wonders what prior owners were thinking sometimes, right?

They did a real hack job on the reinforcement in the left corner where they brought the neck out. Have to fix that yet.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I just got done looking at my transmission. I would never have thought those pre sm420 transmissions would have been so heavy. The gears have chips in them so I am going to have it looked at so I know it's safe to use. I defiantly want to clean it out because I'm sure the mettal chips are at the bottom.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Nothing on the GMC. I have been doing a 2X4to 4X4 conversion on a 1990 dodge. I have most of the parts gathered up now and am doing some fabricating. pretty simple stuff. just front spring hangers and a cross member for front motor mounts.

Finished wiring the instrument cluster and it's ready to plug in. Now just need to make the plug in the dash harness.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Looks really, really nice SBA!

Today's activities:

Out with my old, pecky fender emblems and in with the nice-but-not-perfect ones I bought off CL.

Then I began working on my seat replacement. "New-to-me-seat" had some 4" long mounting studs rusted solid under it - what a PITA. Gibbs oil, double nutting & a long box end wrench cured that. I was lucky not to snap them though. Sorry, no pic's of that.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Finished putting in new windows, window regulators, handles, and felts. It took me a couple of days to do it all but I work slow. The windows all came together so must have come from one vendor, but the drivers side window had fine threads in the two attaching bolt holes and the other side had the correct coarse threads. Can't figure that one out, but it cost me an hour for a trip to the hardware store for two quarter inch fine thread screws.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Russ, that looks outstanding!
I need to do that too so I'll be picking your brain when the time comes. Personally, I love the wing windows on these old trucks. I know everyone doesn't agree but to me they're part of the charm of an older vehicle. Love that your chrome is all fresh! - Natch, being the chrome whore that I am! Lol.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I opened the rear barn doors on my '51 Panel to see how I could adjust them so the doors don't touch in the middle and the left one stops on the striker and not some random spot where the frame touches the door on the left enough to keep the door open about 1/2 inch without slamming it.

I started loosening the top body-side hinge bolts on the passenger barn door to see if there was any adjustment there but had to stop at 2 bolts because the wife came out and I'm technically not allowed to work on my truck until I finish some stuff in the house.

Well that's not something you do everyday, LOL.

Looks like the same frame stub but different rear end in the second pic. Speaking of pics, let's see some more of that truck. What's the plan for it?
