Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Stripped out a '63 930 cab (C-30) that someone in the past had tried to move with slings through just the cab(doors open) (yes, the whole truck, duallies and all)........you guessed it ....it buckled.
too bad too 65000 miles on it.
Note worthy parts:
Recently recovered seat bottom
Replaced and near new fuel tank
Brand new looking sending unit
All rubber parts in mint condition(less door seals)
Deluxe heater
Uncut dash center
I thought I did pretty well for a freeby

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Today I swapped manifolds on the 67 and got it running, Then I cleaned out the interior of the 60 and got the clutch and brakes pumped back up then I got it running( been sitting since September of 2010. I then went for a cruise around town and then ran out of gas.

I forgot how much I love driving my old trucks. Theres just somthing about that Old truck smell, gear noise and clicking lifters that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling and puts a huge smile on my face.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

It's a Diamont brand charcoal metallic. I wanted a bit of metallic this time around because I found the stock charcoal was not really tied in to the metallic silver. I'll try and dig up the color code tomm.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Pumped up the front pass side tire, and started my 82 shortbed for the first time in 8 months. Required a new battery, a can of seafoam in the gas tank and a few drops of gas down the carb. Drove it around for a bit to get the fluids flowing, topped off the fluids, and sent in for my new tags. Mine died at the end of march. Should get tags by the end of the week and then c10 season begins for me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I drove half way across the state of Georgia today to look at and buy a pair or nice 72 doors .They turned out to be 71 doors but they were so nice I brought them home with me ,no speaker holes cut and No Rust .The price was not too bad either .I now have 69, the original somewhat rusty 72 doors and now 71 doors .The body shop can decide which ones they want to use as it does not matter to me. They also have 3 fleetside tailgates to chose from .I'll know soon which parts they will use and which they will put on Craigslist . I only need one more used item for the build and Im on the hunt for it .

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I am very close to driving my '64 again! All I have to do is drop the distributor, set the valves, and fill it up with gas! I got aggravated at my truck last Summer after a head cracked, and it has been parked since then. Just in time for near $4 gallon premium!!!!

Boy, ain't that the truth! I actually feel like a grownup in it now. Before, I sunk down in the seat so far I felt like Edith Ann in the giant rocking chair.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

The smoothness of my throttle linkage has been progressively deteriorating to the point I was reluctantly considering removing my Cal Custom gas pedal and going with a completely different setup. After a lot of careful study and complete disassembly I finally determined the problem was in the linkage between the firewall and the carburetor. After trimming away part of the cruise control bracket for clearance and making a few other modifications it’s now working perfectly. Not very exciting but sure makes the truck more enjoyable to drive.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

well , I needed to work on my DD a '97 Silverado 2500 ... I have been opening the drivers side door by running the window down , then reaching outside for the handle ,then running the window back up... I got the latch and inner door handle , (the 3rd one in 2 years) from another member here and finally had a chance to install them , plus a new outer door handle.. took less time than I thought and it all works perfect now ...

Those cheap pot metal inner door handles suck. I have replaced the driver handle twice on my friends C1500 and guess what, it's broken again.

Dang, Lone Star Roundup sure got you motivated...
Yesterday I readjusted the glovebox latch, reattached my dome light so it isn't flopping around and figured out why me gas guage only would show half full when full. Some idiot had put the float on the sender backward which caused the float to only go up half way. Oh yeah I'll admit it, I,m the idiot..but it works now.

I am with ya!

I can totally understand why some of the guys here rebuild a bunch of the same style trucks. That way they take advantage of the learning curve.
