Yes, the brake pipe really pee'd me off as the fitting on the replacement part differed from the original.

Now it's a mix of metric and Imperial.

Today I had the day off, as well as tomorrow.

Typically there were not enough hours to satisfy my planned schedule........ read that I did not get close to what I had planned to do, which was some shifting stuff around the garage.

Unfortunately home ownership includes a lot of yard work, and selected other tasks that I cannot delegate. So just needs to be done.

Today, after a long wait, I removed a massive multi trunked Buddleja, or Buddleia /ˈbʌdliːə/, commonly known as the butterfly bush, is a genus comprising over 140 species of flowering plants endemic to Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

I have hated it since we moved here at end of 2010 and like the creeper on the garage walls, I had to wait for Nicola to leave and not be protecting it. They are messy, invasive and like Medusa, the more you attack it the more it comes back.

So I cut all the branches up to about 1.4 meters from the ground and chopped it all into very small parts with my trust hedge trimmer that my brother had bought me as a wedding present in 2010.



Cut down, then chopped, keeping the thicker stems as firewood for the fireplace that is yet to be used this year.





With me ramming it into the wheels bins, I filled two to the brim.


At around 13.00 my friend Dave "Muckyhelmet" who had lent me his Trade card when I rebuilt the kitchen, netting me an over 50% saving on the kitchen. Crazy, but true.

He had found three packs of 1.2x1.8 meters of high density foam flooring.
Perfect to have on the floor in winter.
The cold is a killer.

He stayed for a while and chatted, checked out the garage and gave advice, then went off to,donate blood. Always a good thing to do.



Tomorrow I hope to cut down the rest of the stems and paint it with some brutal plant killer so as to prevent regrow the.

The plan is to replace it with two evergreen and fast growing shrubs to fill the big hole I created in my horizon

Maybe I will get some time to start moving stuff around in the garage and start planning where next with the truck.

I need to set up my welder as well as there is so much welding coming up.

Great project of clearing out brushy Plants ,I have many home projects to do to but spent my free time after work today cutting and splitting fire wood . Looking forward to more updates whether it is yard work or truck projects .

Yes, it is more work than it seems, but needed to be done.

So after a short nights sleep, filled with three lots of Ibuprofen and paracetamol before, during and after, I went back out to complete the job I started yesterday. Last night I had two hot water bottles in succession on my lower back between 6-10pm last night, they made a huge difference.

Anyway, after breakfast I pulled the tools out.

I also optimistically fetched the chainsaw from deep inside the garage where I stored it about three years ago if I recall correctly.

Now being a Stihl, I know it is a decent bit of kit.

But I expected to be pulling and pulling and pulling and swearing for some time.......

However, seriously, it started on the third pull, without the choke.

What a shock.

Stihl starts third pull after 3 years plus. -...

So I cut back some branches by hand, then followed the stump side with the chainsaw.

What a pleasure.



Getting them all out, and then the branches from yesterday as well.



Done.



More there than it looks. Cleaned up, will pack them away on Monday.



After cleaning up and packing the tools away, I got my faithful cordless drill that Craig gave me and and a 13mm bit, plus a bottle of concentrated Roundup weedkiller.

Resulting in this........



Covered it all over n an old rubber car mat and plonked a concrete ornament on top of it.

That's me done then for now.

Merry Christmas Rian ,I have a very similar chain saw ,I love Stihl equipment .I just bought a commercial grade pole saw to reach those limbs that thought they were safe from me .

Christmas Day, along with Valentines and some others really get up my nose.
The whole selfish, commercial nature of them drives me to despair and into my own burrow.

So yesterday I had been invited to spend the day with Katy and her whole family etc about 8 people, but declined as I hate these days of eating and eating a doing nothing constructive.

So by 09.00 I had the grass cut and last if the leaves In the garden beds gathered and in the wheely bin.

On Christmas Eve I had spent the afternoon with my friend Darren Hardy and his dad at Unit Engineering, their engineering shop on the Isle of Sheppey, after which I popped over to mate Scott "Jabbo" for a cuppa and the harras their three dogs.

While at Darren's, we always chat cars, hotrods etc, and I tend to get to see what he is busy making or building.

He has been running a metal sign making business for some time and will make up pretty much anything you order from him.
Powedercoating service available on site too.

He always lets me rummage in his rubbish piles and the laser cut cast offs were in the scrap pile.........

I was good, only picked up a few bits.

One of the pieces (two actually) were lovely, but the result of either operator or machine error........ you go figure it out.

The "A" was AWOL.

Does it bother me?? Not a bit.




In one of the sheds, you are talking space for 6 cars easily we found this........

To be used for a bit of racing fun.

Early days.

Once done, I headed over to mate Kevin and Terri's place in Maidstone for a late lunch after 2pm and had a great time.
Followed by a short visit on the way home to an old friend and her kids.

Back home I spoke to Dennis in St Louis, Missouri.

He had got a few presents, my favourite was a model made by his son of the NASCAR race truck based C10 truck he is building.

Brilliantly accurate.



Lastly, remember Kelly from Ethel's restaurant?

She sent Festive greetings via Dennis too.

My day certainly made.



Boxing Day ........ gluttony and not doing a thing.

Last night was chilly here in the Kent and South East.



Today I had planned some garage time, but a text or two from mate Craig meant I had all the excuses needed so I could escape my place.

So up early, did some stuff here, then the hour drive to his place.

Got there at Chill -o- Clock but noticed his neighbour now has a 59 Sedan Delivery.



Plan was to work on the 47 Aerosedan as some of the jobs needed two sets of hands or a bit of strength.

But before that we needed to go to his Unit to fetch some parts and so I could get a good look at the 49 Chevy truck he had bought for Lorraine for her birthday.

First thing to charm me.......

400cc of brutal Japanese motivation.



Then about 30 minutes with the truck. It was cold in the unit, but I like it.



First four handed job.....

Refit new fuel tank and straps.





Every day is a school day.

Simplest tool solution.

New inline fuel filters with new Jubilee clips and hose. Plumbers pipe cutting tool. Perfect.



I have seen some championship winning bodies and redneck fixes.

This has to be one of the best.

Hole cut in the rust free floor and a fan mounted under passenger seat.



After the tank, adjusting the handbrake, some fuel in the tank and an attempt to get the 6volt car started and fresh fuelsucked through from the new tank.....failed.

Battery needs to be charged.

But we ended up removing g brake, clutch pedals and the actuating arms as the newly fitted master cylinder caused it all to foul on the firewall.

So we needed to bend them in the vice.

Much of the work is done in very limited space.



By 4pm we had lunch and called it a day.

I will go back tomorrow early so we can bleed the brakes and do some other jobs, before maybe getting the car off the trailer and onto the road for a first test.....l

Some interesting things have been done to cars over the years that made since at the time.

Started tearing down my donor truck today. Didn't get far but it is progress just the same.

I normally like to update threads as I go along.

Last night.......? Naaahhhh.

Yesterday my friend Henry, "51Rider" not "Rider51" as I had thought, (CAN ANYONE FIGURE OUT THE DIFFERENCE) was visiting for the day to help me replace the strip lights I had got from mate Euan "Moosevan" a few years ago and fitted in my special way...........

For a start, this was the temperature in my uninsulated, unseated garage.



Outside, neighbour Mickeys blue Ford looked like this.



So when Henry arrived, he bore gifts, best being M&S iced spicy buns and biccies.



Cuppa tea, chat, Harley all over Henry, and we were headed for the garage.

The old lights being removed, three working, one not, are looking for a new home. Collection only. Send a PM if you want them.



Henry assembling, I did not know how much OCD he had at the outset..... and hated it, as I tend to just get on with stuff, but the result was worth the tape measures, spirit levels etc.



I did actually make all the tea, sandwiches and operate the mains switches too, but inbetween he let me help a bit.

I have never in my life measured 300mm between saddle clamps while fixing a power line to the DB. Henry made me....... but the result did look smart.



Head torch and a halogen spotlight on an extension cord.
Poor guys arms and shoulders must have protested in the end.
At least I got to hold the P-clips, screws and power driver.



By the time we got to mains hookup it was dark, so more head torch and LED light action.



Henry let me switch on the new wall mounted and dedicated switch to the light, no more plug in an extension cord.

Today I am actually doing nothing, my first rest day, but I will head to the garage in a bit to look at my welders goose neck and trigger as it needs attention before I start the welding on the truck parts.

In other great news, Henry discovered an unused 16 amp circuit (is that what you call it?) in the garage DB, which he will return to then wire up as a dedicated exit and plug for my welder as that is on a 13 amp plug as indicated by original instructions, but we know more is best in this case.

Time for a cuppa tea now then find something to do.

This is confusing me. I'm subscribed to your thread on GJ and on here. I reply to one and then see the other and think what happened to my reply?
