Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took my freshly painted 8" ralley wheels to the tire shop and left them to get my new tires installed .One of the guys from the bodyshop volunteered to pick them up for me. Now I can sell the other tires and van ralleys to someone in need.

Took my 72 GMC to the Shop to have the Lokar Gas Pedal and Brake/E-Brake pads installed, along with the matching Lokar Throttle and Tranny Linkage.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Today, I finished painting the inside of the front clip. I got one of the new (junkyard) inners on. What a PIA!!!!

Got home and a box full of door panel parts showed up. A gift from the "Little Woman". She loves me...for some reason.

Also, she wanted to fire me up, as the 1955 Olds is going to be picked up on Saturday. She loves the truck.
And she'll love it more when it's on the road. So, no tinkering with the Olds until......

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Okay...This thread seems to be turning into a build thread. I apologize. But I love the thread for other reasons.....

Today, I almost killed myself putting the other inner on (pass side). Even though I used stock parts, I guess after all the years, each truck develops it's own geometry.
I was by myself today in the 97 degree heat rolling around outside the shop where I have the front clip on saw horses. Not a pretty sight. I came home and slept for three hours.

Tip: When installing new/repop/used inners, if you see you need a couple of new body clips....Don't think you can get to 'em (at least "easily")
*after* you've started the front and rear bolts.

Speaking of not fitting, I bought $350 worth of **** for the door panels from LMC. They shorted me three eschoens (sp.) , the rubber deals that keep the handles
from rubbing on the door panels). And, because of the drilling and refitting, etc. I only got one of the two done. But I think it came out okay.

Here's a couple of shots.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I changed the upper radiator hose to the stock/correct metal hose on the 70 SWB 4X4 and started getting it spiffed up for a show on Sunday. It really is the only show I go to all season as it is only a few miles away.

Just about killed myself doing it, however, I finally got the first coat of primer on my cab. Was a half a gallon of primer for the first coat on the cab too much?

The "just about killed myself" refers to: I set a goal to have my cab in primer this weekend, I set that goal on Friday night after I got home from work. I still had some sanding left to do, door jams and surface rust from having exposed metal for too long, so I had to re-sand pretty much the entire cab, inside and out. I'm not as young as I used to be (my wife says I'm still an 8 year old because of my sense of humor) but the older guy got it done in one long day, hence the almost killed myself.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Decided I'd waited long enough for cooler weather so I went ahead and spruced up my gauge cluster. I bought a new bezed from Classic Parts and some orange paint a while back. But between not knowing how big of a job it would be and the oppressive heat that won't seem to go away, I'd been putting it off.

Anyway, I got bored on Saturday and decided to pull the ride into the garage and go to work. First, this is not a big nor difficult job. It took only about 10 minutes to get the dash out of the truck. I did the rest on my workbench with a fan blowing on me.

The cluster comes apart with about 8 screws. First, I painted the pointers on the gauges with bright orange paint that I bought at Hobby Lobby and resprayed the light green reflective side.

Next I wiped down the gauges with a little Windex and a microfiber towel, cleaned the lens real good with Windex and put everything back together. I replaced a few burned out bulbs and put it back in the truck.

All total, including drying time (not very long considering the heat) and a trip to the parts store, it didn't take more than a couple hours.

I think the results make it well worth it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

My son and I started really working on the truck this weekend. Swapped out the driver side fender, pulled the front bumper and grille, pulled off the old hood, sanded down the cab and sprayed on some self etching primer. Going to do a down and dirty paint job in the next couple months, so we are busting butt trying to get it ready to take to the paint booth!
