Re: GM Semis

Grabbed this photo off the 60-66 section, appears to be on a late model frame. A way to get around the obsolete original chassis parts problem. They lower everything these days.

Re: GM Semis

Lower it. Suddenly it's cool!

True, swapping body onto newer chassis, or swapping components to original frame, solves obsolete parts issues.

What I see is a ruined truck (that could be saved) just to have a thing to take to shows. What good is it for otherwise? A pleasure to drive doesn't really fit here. "Nice cab & chassis. What are you going to mount on it and use it for?"

Re: GM Semis

That's a DBI-7000, notice it does not have a 'V-6' emblem on the hood. When the DB-7000 series came out in 1960, the only diesel available was the 6V-71, customers wanting the in-line 6-71 in a conventional had to buy the old D-860 which remained in production through the 1962 model year. In 1963 the D-860 was finally replaced with the 6-71 powered DBI-7000.

I guess we blew the "semi" theme a long way back. Cool buses! I believe that wrecker would get the job done!

Re: GM Semis

I wasn't sure where to else to post them.

The 35 belongs to my boss been working on it for some 20 years.
The 36 is across the street from where i park my big truck.
Thought it was neat to see a 35 and 36 chevrolet within days of each other.

Re: GM Semis

I noticed that right away. I like the truck all the more for that. I can tell this guy likes his rig and has it set up just how he wants. I saw it on Saturday, no one around. I would have liked to talked to the owner or operator.

I was coming home from the ATHS Tri-State (MD/PA/VA) show when I saw that truck. At the show was this really nice and showy one I only got the one picture of

Thank you!

No, sorry, don’t have any videos of the 82 with the 4-53T yet….it’s in storage on my property until I have time to work on it. Everything leaks and most parts are worn out, it needs a total overhaul. My Grandfather had a shop in Northern California do the conversion, and they could have done a better job, but it did go coast-to-coast almost a dozen times with no issues, so there’s that. It has a Spicer 3053A 5-speed transmission from a military M35A2 Deuce-and-a-half truck, with the hole between 3rd & 4th gear. I have 2 Deuces (1975 AM-General & 1971 Kaiser-Jeep) so I have several of these transmissions that are working pull-outs for spares….

I also have a 1944 Chevy G506 1.5-ton 4x4 that is totally clapped out…it was an old southern Nevada mining truck that was literally ridden hard & put away wet. I have visions of taking the 4-53T and putting it in this truck, then taking the 82 cab and swapping it onto a semi-truck chassis with either a 6V92T or 8V92T (I have both in crates, just need rebuilds). I also have a new fiberglass tilt hood from the larger C60-80 series.

I will never be bored! LOL

Re: GM Semis

Here’s my GMC General in my shop…still trying to get my shop organized & insulated, but am always short on time. Truck has a different license plate than original picture but both still from Wyoming; unless mine is a twin to the one in the original photo.

Just thought you’d all appreciate pics & proof that at least one truck from the start of this thread has survived and will be taken care of.
