Me too Chip, me too. Seems I've already forgotten how long it took to get it to this point. Now the truck is part of the family.

Oh Yeah, now it makes sense. Yeah that old motor is probably in a foreign car by now. I scrapped it years ago. The things people do

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Small update. The Monday after our last trip, I went out to the shop to find a huge puddle of coolant under the truck. I guess at some point on the way home the OEM water pump gave up the ghost. I monitor the temp like a hawk, so I know there was no overheating.
For all you LS swap guys, go ahead and spend the money for a new one before you put your truck on the road. I'm so glad it didn't happen on my shakedown run. I picked a new water pump online. Got it swapped out and now I'm back on the road. Drove the truck to work today. All is great Old pump out: Installed: Awesome weather today in Oklahoma, perfect to drive my classic to work. |

I got the part number from Rockauto then ordered it from amazon. Much quicker shipping and a lil cheaper on the price. LINK I am leaving today after work for the camping trip. Not all of us get every other Friday off. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Glad you caught it before it got hot. Enjoy the camping trip! It's gonna be pretty nice up here too. It would have been a great day to drive my truck into work but there is still salty slush melting on the roads

Me too. I like driving it too much to have to do major wrenching before the 1000 mile mark.

Funny you should say that. I just drove mine with the LS in it for the first time yesterday and the waterpump is leaking from the rear seal already... Mine is a slow drip rather than a huge leak though. Good looking truck! I like the pictures by the lake. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
That reminds me of the old LT1's - when they leaked, the coolant went into the optispark and destroyed that too.
Glad this was an easy fix.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I'm having a hell of a time with heater hoses, of all things. Just won't stay dry! Glad yours is doing well.

So far so good with the heater hoses on mine. I finally got all the air of this one and the heater works great. I will be driving it as much as possible. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I drove ole red to work last Friday. The weather was awesome, so I couldn't resist.
Had a little run in with a tire tread off a semi. At 75 mph it wasn't pleasant. It was dark and this thing appeared from out of nowhere. I smacked it and hoped for the best. It trashed the lower right cab corner and left rubber all under the door and rocker panel. Fortunately, the damage is underneath so you have to crawl under to see it. None the less, it hurt my feelings. I will touch up the paint and keep driving her. I hope to upgrade the head lights eventually. Maybe I will get more warning if so. The rubber marks wiped right off with some wax and grease remover, but the flare in the lower cab corner is pretty permanent. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Man that sucks. I know with your skills you will be able to get it back close and less noticeable. I bet you are right about the headlights, that will be a upgrade worth the cost. Good luck.
