Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

If you don't mind telling, I'm curious what that costs because you can buy lowering spring packs (locally at The Truck Shop) but they cost $399 a pair I believe. Pretty pricey when you consider you can accomplish the same thing with lowering blocks & new U bolts.

I am getting the springs done locally for about $250.
Shipping springs to South Australia from the US would be a killer (have you picked these things up ) so I did not consider
Lowering blocks aren't an option for me as I need to get the pickup inspected by our local transport authority before I can get it registered and they don't like lowering blocks.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I've looked for aftermarket grills that fit over the vent openings on the kick panels and found none, perhaps I looked in the wrong places.

So I made my own......

Still have a bit off clean up then sandblasting then paint to match.

One more item checked off the "to do" list.

Brought a 51 GMC home Saturday, this morning I sprayed down all the fittings and fasteners with kroil and ordered parts for a brake overhaul.

I went through mine from front o back, eliminating all the squeaks and rattles that I could find. Then I went and greased the hell out of everything

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Guess I'm gonna have to start a build thread & pics. And go back and read how to get it in the sig line of posts. Until then a few pics of gauge work today. Gutted the OEM gauge shells and cut a 4&5/8 hole in back for a 5" Dolphin speedo & 5" quad gauges. Dressed up the pitted chrome ring and painted it some. I didn't want individual gauges stuck in the dash or under it. I'm satisfied with the results.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Ran wire to the new headlight switch & dimmer switch. Cussed at the shift linkage I'm trying to build. Decided it might be worth it to buy the Lokar.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I layed some FatMat sound deadening material on the floor of my cab, then bent some fuel line from gas tank ouside of cab. Had a little difficulty with fuel neck on cab but I'll figure it out tonight. It was late last night so I just decided to stop...no sense rushing and f'ing something up.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I made it work a little today. Went to Lowe's for eight sheets of lattice. I love the attention my truck gets, especially when people see it actually being used.
For what it's worth: My advice is stay away from the rattle can bedliner if you are going to use your truck at all. It scratches way to easily to be of any value.

Looking good but a thought. Do not make it an absolute tight install, leave some vents high and low in case your filler hose or sender starts to weep. No need to trap fumes that you need to smell in a potential sparking environment. Would be a "Casino" moment if you went to power the speakers and boom...

Didn't work the truck directly, but I did purchase a honkin' old vise made by C Parker.
