I made a dump run (you know, the "landfill"). Spring cleaning.

Then I set the drain in my downstairs shower that I gutted over 10 years ago. Once set, I made the mortar shower pan. Been a long time coming. Next will be the Schluter membrane and tile! I figure that will happen next year. Can't be rushing things here

It's all about the proper "cure" time of course. No need to rush a job.

Yeah, that and I have another shower . Basically, I forget it's there. This is the 3rd time doing that shower, so I've been apprehensive about doing it 110% to be sure it would last. New better products are out there which use different techniques. Money was a problem at first, because that Schluter stuff is pricey. Also, plenty more to do around here that was a bigger priority. I've had the Schluter stuff probably 5 years. I've redone the exterior, built a garage, and a heap of other improvements since I've had that stuff. I like to save inside stuff for winter, too. So, although I have two major projects I'm pecking away at, I saw spring coming and don't want another year to go by. I have everything but the tile for the walls, so at least doing the waterproof membrane and floor tile before another lull. But I think I'll go all the way because the thought of checking that off the list makes me feel really good.

I'm trying to stay focused on one project at a time but it's also good to have an alternative to keep moving forward when something hangs the one project up. Somewhere in there is a balance!

You are going to smoke a cherry tree? I'd hate to see how you are going to roll it . Being funny, I couldn't help myself.

Smoke some cherry for a sweet buzz... if good food turns you on . Is cherry a wood they make pipes out of. You know, like briar pipes?

You got me to chuckle. Smoking a cherry tree is not so bad if you can get somebody to hold the heavy end for you.

Did you sweat today? I did for the first time since last year. Not ready for that much heat yet. Firewood is a cold weather sport

What I did was observe how well the carpenter bee traps I made a couple years ago are working. I got them up just before they appeared. The first year I made them they went up after those bastaads were busy. Worked but only got a few. Last year they went up earlier but after they appeared. I swear, this year I put them up, just on Monday, and then there they were yesterday. They really work. Today, out of the 6 I have two with one, one with two, and one with more than I can tell. Looks like 4 or 5. None yesterday, but in just one day they did this!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yep. Thank goodness they don't seem interested in my front porch where the other two are hanging. I've rarely gotten one out of those two and no signs of boring started, ever. Good thing, because that is the most precious of all my exterior wood.

I just redid that trellis they tore into a couple years ago. And to replicate the old true 2" x 4" lumber dimensions I had to rip down 4 x 6s. I just turned that water gauge right side up (upside down all winter) on Monday. Those holes weren't there. They did all that yesterday! They really went at it. I have 6 more jars and plenty of scrap 4 x 4. I'm making more asap.

Not really most strenuous part is getting on and off the FEL. Did get a little sunburnt though.

I have a couple of those traps dont use them though. I dont get many carpenter bees though lots of honey bees specially when the Rhododendrons are blooming .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I got 9 carpenter bees yesterday. And I sweated just pushing my lawnmower. It got to 85* here yesterday. At dawn this morning it was 65*. I sawed my last firewood till fall, I hope, earlier this week. Used the Tru Fuel since I hope the Farm Boss will be on it's summer hiatus.

EDIT: I got 16 bees. There were 12 in the one I thought maybe 5 were in, that I took a picture of. Yesterday 2 had just 1, so 18 so far

Don't know that I've ever seen carpenter bees.
Tim, way up yonder and you are already mowing? Aw nuts! Now you've done it. I've got to go do mine now. Maybe I'll just do the first weed eating today and catch the mower part next week. It's looking a little shaggy around here. We've just had rain storms and twisters the last 3 days and another round of rain coming toward the weekend.

Nothing but gravel and dirt here. But I don't miss mowing lawns. Not even a little bit.

I don't own a lawnmower or a snow shovel and that's how I like it.

Had to get the big equipment to use on the big stuff my Kubota wouldn’t move . Wanted to take the 85 out so no trailer . Just dragged and piled it up . So far we cleared about 25% of what’s coming out. I should be good for a few years.

Some are going to be milled with my Alaskan mill so it’s not all firewood .

I'm not all that way up yonder. Maryland is a southern state. I guess it's the top of the south for the East Coast. Kind of the grey area between north and south, so weather can go either way. Red buds are about to pop. Just a half hour down the road, where I was today, and they are a week ahead. That's about the altitude change. People have started mowing since a week or so ago. Across the road, which I mow, was getting pretty long. Gets lots of sun. My property mostly had the early shoot ups that start growing before the grass. I like to let it grow longer on the first mow, but Carlisle is next week and I ended up with free time in the afternoon. I try to make Thursday my mow day. I was only going to make sure the mower was good, but once it was running I figured what the hay?

I emptied those bee traps and that one on my woodshed had 12 in it! So, all together in one day I got 16. Got two ore today after I emptied them out. I don't know why they call them carpenter bees. They don't build anything, they tear it down. They should call them demo bees
