Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
There was another post talking about woodgrain decals and someone posted about www.repops.com (had to buy from JEGS). I talked to a nice fellow about the trim, which comes in a pack of 2 at 12’ in length and 1.6875” wide.
I am going to use that 12x1 stuff for my bed rails, since I am still not pleased with what I got off of eBay (though I am sure the guy that made them did his best). But I'll need to find a vinyl pro to cut them down and apply them to my rails, Lord knows I wouldn't be able to cut/trim them without F'n them up. While I was at it, I bought their glovebox and dash cluster woodgrain overlay decals. I applied the glovebox one a bit ago. For the door latch hole and all around to the edges, I used my Dad's very good hair dryer that has to be a zillion years old (it nearly puts out heat like a heat gun). When he passed away, I actually made a point to get that dryer out of his garage because I knew it was a good sub for a heat gun! (Thanks Dad and miss you) The dash is going to be a bit more fun. Soon as you lay it down, it basically becomes one with what you are laying it on (or at least with my glovebox that is what happened). 629-CT140 1967-72 Chevrolet C-10 Woodgrain Glovebox Door 629-CT139 1969-72 G.M. Pickup All Inst Bezel With Gauges 629-CT145 1967-72 G.M All Woodgrain Insert Edit: Now the woodgrain decal is applied to instrument panel. Though I didn't get it perfectly on but I think I can live with it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Thank you!
I didn't pull the dash (like I did the glovebox door) and dropped down the steering wheel - which is why it didn't go smoothy. While its a bit of a cheat not being a Cheyenne Super, I been pining for this woodgrain upgrade. It really changes the feel inside the cab. Too bad I can't get the chrome cover on my tailgate handle (when you put it on the handle it won't clear the door, no matter what adjustment we do). Though all I can do ATM is sit in my cab in the garage to enjoy the fruits of my work, as my starter went kaput after my posting yesterday. For a bit now the starter has been making an odd noise and now it sounds God awful. I only got it back in February 2021 from Rock Auto (AC Delco Gold) and a warranty replacement is on its way. I am really bummed out right now. The AC Delco Gold was support to be the best to get (aside from getting a mini-starter).

Finally finished up my spare cowl that I filled the vents in to keep out all of the leaves & crap from the trees. Since I moved to the sticks, cleaning the vents out is a bi monthly chore...

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Got the nose up, oil drained, filter removed, and flywheel cover removed. I know the oil pan gasket is leaking but found the oil plug and filter leaking as well. Think the filter may be the adapter for spin on filters leaking. No telling how long it’s been on the engine.
Thought the rear main was leaking but first inspection I don’t see that but the pan is leaking badly pretty much all the way around. Pulling exhaust to get the pan off tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Installed new starter today. This was a AC Delco (Gold) replacement from RockAuto that I bought from them in February 2021. The bendix went kaput in a stellar fashion. I have to say, this starter sounds much better straight off the bat. So I hope this one has a long life way past the AC Delco 2 year warranty!
I have to say, getting the RockAuto warranty replacement was easy and fairly fast. With Walgreens being a FedEx pickup, getting the bad one out the door was quick & easy too.

I also got myself a fully chrome tailgate handle from Auto Metal Direct (it is where I actually bought my tailgate from). Sadly I didn't notice my ship to was still setup for my brother to pick up the freight shipping for the replacement tailgate - so I'll have to wait extra time before I'll get it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
This oil pan gasket replacement is stretching out. Ended up cutting the exhaust right at the rear of the cab to get it all out of the way. No biggie since it’s all going to be replaced soon anyway. Got all six exhaust studs off without incident which was fantastic. Had to pull the starter to get to the passenger side motor mount bolt. While I was under there I replaced the spark plug wire holder on the block. Saw someone in the past had used nails instead of cotter pins on the shift linkage so that got fixed as well. Cleaned the gasket surface on the block, prepped the new oil pump, knocked a dent out of and painted the flywheel cover. Cleaning up the oil pan now but knocked off for the day.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Surprised to see last post in this thread was December 23rd. Oh well Christmas and stuff going on so not really surprised. Got my exhaust manifolds back after having them Ceramic Coated. They did a super job and will be a nice lasting detail for the new small block.

That's really nice - I wished I had mine done like that too. The new ones didn't stay all that pretty. I assume Ceramic Coating works well over time?

From what I've been told by a couple people is that they will look like this forever. The company has been in business for 10 years and was told by them if anything changes on them let them know right away.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Man, there's some nice trucks in here.
Anyway, my oil pan gasket install is finally done. Used the fel pro permadry and hope it tidies things up under there. With the little snap up things they provide it sure made the actual gasket and pan install much easier. Getting the pan off not so much, but crawling around under there and looking really close at things I got to fix a number of other items. Found two places where nails were used in the shift linkage instead of cotter pins. Got that cleaned up, lubricated and pins installed. Fixed both the block mounted plug wire retainers while I had easy access to them. Hopefully fixed the leaking spin on oil filter adapter as well. Cleaned and painted both pan and flywheel cover. Installed new oil pump. What would work be without at least one bad decision? When it came time to put the exhaust back in I decided not to just weld it back together because I was thinking the no telling how many decades old muffler might be some of the problem I am having with carb tuning. So, I built this for a temporary exhaust. That's a 12" cherry bomb that dumps right at the rear of the cab. It's loud but will get me to the exhaust shop in a few months once I finish putting the interior back together. I was running on such a high getting all this done I decided to tackle the leaking thermostat housing. Things were going good right up to the point they weren't. Both bolts broke off in the intake. That is my new weekend project.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
For a while I had wanted to replace the parts house plug wires with period nos 7mm ones. I was hesitant at first because I knew routing them correctly through the engine mounts would be tricky, but after realizing all I had to do was gently slide the boots off the dist cap side, they fell right between the mount and block. Happy with the results. EDIT *** I now see I’m missing a nut on the exhaust flange. Guess that’s next.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I've been working on rebuilding a Vortec engine for the last several months. I asked the machine shop for zero deck height, but they ended up just cleaning up the decks, so I had to go with .023" Cometic head gaskets to get quench and static compression where I wanted them. Took nearly eight weeks to get these head gaskets. I was finally able to install the heads today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
That is good stuff pjmoreland! I wished I new ~2 years ago about quench - I would have had a nicer engine.
Today I got in from Classic Chevy Truck parts some SS door Vent Shades. Been wanting these for a while now. I was worried I wasn't going to be able to figure out the install, since no instructions came in the box. But it was actually rather easy. I also got in my Courtesy Light Harness for under the dash lighting. Though I didn't realize no screws would be provided, so now I need to find some that are black. Edit: I also realized no light bulbs either but I have some in my garage (or pretty sure of that).

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Each side had "4 clips". You pull the upper door seal down, put the clips in along the top horizontal door window frame. Then I mounted the vent into pace on the clips, which the window wing side of the shade goes in between the vertical window wing bar and felt runner seal. After getting the shade in all okay, I then popped back up the upper door seal in.
Bob's your uncle!
