Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Went over to the rental house to replace a light switch in one of the bathrooms. One of the renters has been unscrewing the light bulbs to turn the lights off. Dude, just call us and I'll come over and replace the switch! So, my wife tells me that the lights flicker in the other bathroom, and have since the renters moved in (according to one of the renters). I've been over there many times, why didn't they say something before now? Crazy. But the place they lived in previously had a slumlord landlord who never fixed anything, so maybe they think we're the same? I replace the one light switch (success), and then one of the renters tell me about how he can't find the reset button on the garbage disposal. I press the reset, the disposal is seized up. I don't have the tools with me, I was expecting to replace a light switch. I check the other bathroom. Yes, indeed, the lights are flickering. Go up for another switch, replace it, and now the lights don't work at all. I went home and got lunch and more tools, (and another light switch) and went over and got it all done. Another new switch, which actually works! We're in the process of selling the place, so I'm thinking hard about reducing the price of the house by $500 (snicker) and having the new owners replace the garbage disposal.

I have 3 "rentals' They really aren't rentals because I have family members in them.

They know better than to call me if something breaks. Fix it yourself.

My deadbeat brother lives in one of my houses and called me to say that the property taxes were due and I needed to pay them.

Really? MF'er, you live there for free! You pay them! Pay something!

He paid them. And now he's not speaking to me. I can't win.

Today, I removed the j-box cover and discovered that I have the proper color wires so that I'm certain that when I connect the saw it won't explode because I hooked it to the power wrong. That's a $5k sweaty eyebrow wipe, for sure.
The color of the wires is not important. Its the gauge of the wires. 120/220 is not as import and as the same 2 wires will do ether and 220 will work on smaller (larger gauge wire) because it splits the amperage across both wires where as 120 draws on one. 14 gauge wire is good for 15 amps, 12 gauge will work up to 20 amps. But you can run a 20 amp 220 device on 14 gauge because it is only drawing 10 amps per wire. Hope that makes since.

True about the wire color. The saw draws 13 Amps. It'll be connected to the old electric clothes dryer power line, which is 30 amps per leg. The extension cord I'm going to use was one my dad had for a planer molder that was twice the horsepower. I put in a gas dryer, which saved a ton of money on electricity over the last 20 years.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

What I did, not on but for "a" truck I "might" end up having some day, is go buy a pair of N.O.S. painted white mirror heads. I had to run clear over to the northeast corner of Baltimore. Shot a big hole in my day. But finding these was perfect. I have painted 69-71 mirrors I wanted to restore but the heads were questionable.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

It's funny. I usually get back from Carlisle still in prowl for parts mode. I don't look at FB Marketplace unless I'm bored. Then, usually just scroll down. But this time I went into "Auto Parts" and it was like Carlisle all over again, very old stock. I had all these plans for around here on my first day back. Next thing I know I'm grabbing a sandwich before heading out the door for the city where I was greeted with a traffic backup on a Sunday morning. I paid my dues there! The guy has a '51 pickup all nicely done and had an ochre '71 Cheyenne he sold to a friend because it sat outside. These are interesting because they seem to pre-date the use of below eyeline mirrors on new trucks. The box looks pre-67 and they were sold as an accessory. I guess they were intended to mount on standard stick mirrors?

That space is where the mirror arm slides in. I've seen them on the medium duty trucks a lot. Nice score on the mirror heads though Tim.

I ordered a lot of money today. New toy on the way if I don't get beat out by someone else before the money gets here. Nail biting time. But I think I've got it. A little hint. It's a car. Like I need another one. We shall see.

Tell me about it.

Today I got kicked out of my house. Well, I didn't really get kicked out. Edison is rebuilding the lines. Everyone's power was shut off in the whole neighborhood. It's supposed to last all day. This is the third time. I hope it's the last. Probably not.

I could have fired up my generator but it was easier to just go over to my other house. Everything works great here.

Power outages are really boring.
