Cleaned 60 years of grease off the springs. Was surprised to see the original part number painted on top of the springs in such good shape.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Finally got the wood from the finisher. He said all he had to do was color sand and buff it out. Went by the Truckshop and bought my polished stainless strips for the bed.
Am currently trying install with the wifey helping me. Hard to get the special pieces I am adding on the inside panels. Will post pics to show everyone my surprise.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Oh, we're doing my frame in YOUR shop?

If that's true it'd almost be worth it to buy a big screen to get you to help me! ha ha.

I took my 90 year old mother to Walmart last week and you know they have a 1080 dpi big screen, I think like 48 or 52 inches for $498!!! Blew me away. That's CHEAP compared to what they used to cost.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Removed the gas tank, it had about 2 gallons of gas in it and about 2lbs of rust. I put degreaser and chain in then went to muratic acid. It got a it out but it's still pretty bad. I opted to order a new one.

Whew, DUDE! That turned out FANSTASTIC!

What finish is that? Automotive clear or something else? Too bad its not very shiny! lol.

That might be the most beautiful bed wood I've ever seen. Huge congratulations.

What's next, if anything? Is the truck finally done?

Thanks Dan, next is off to the interior. Was gonna try to start my kick panels and sun visors today but no luck, will probably start tomorrow or Tuesday. I still need to take the later model Chevy seat to my buddy who does upholstery.
I am going to do it in a tuck and roll, with a headliner embossed with a Bowtie.

I almost forgot, I finished with "Man O War" it's a marine varnish, then had a wood finisher color sand and buff it out for me.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I went to my first car show (not a big deal, there are 2 held on fridays and 2 more held on saturdays EVERY WEEK), but it was my first to sit there and talk to people. I met a guy from Chandler with a beautiful 49 AD. He told me he spent $60,000 just for the paint job! Sorry, too dark to take pics, but it was awsome. He said there was 700 hours just in the body work. Made me feel bad, I thought I had a lot of time in my truck (750 hours in the entire build)
But on a brighter note... he only had 3000 miles on it since he finished it in January of this year. I have over 2000 miles in just a month

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Refinished my small block serpentine mounts and mounted them to the BBC using kwik performance mounts. I had the cast iron BBC mounts and man were those things heavy, a total of 32lbs on my bath room scale.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

We took our 56 out for its first highway run. There seems to bee some vibration right before we hit 60 mph so I'm thinking either the pinion angle at the transmission needs to change or the u joint at the slip yoke is gone. But it was nice to see how it handles and rides at faster speed.

Ordered parts and to the paint store to try and match some paint for my interior, it's not an exact match but it's pretty close.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Since Da Beast arrived it's been non stop work, with everyday changing my mind. Yesterday was rear brake day! Removed my alternator so I could install the proper mounting bracket. Removed rear corner windows today I'll remove the rear center window. Straightening out some of the wiring. Lots to do as ya'll know.
