Thanks, I try to tell myself that as i'm sanding, it will be worth it but my arm still hates me anyway

Thanks, it's not perfect but will have to do. The SEM self leveling went down really nice and if it wasn't for some spots of human error, then it would have been perfect. Good thing for me is it can be sanded so I sanded out the imperfections the best I could. Once I got the hang of it, it layed down like glass.

Thanks Buck, it has been a lot of work to get to this point and it's still not perfect but will have to do. I'm jealous of that LS1 you have going in your truck and I love the new wheels, one of my favorites.

Thanks Tom, yeah as long as I don't chicken out when I go to paint, it will be two tone it's probably not the right time budget wise to tear the big block out and go to an LS but it is the right time to do it before I assemble the truck for the last time. I can get it mocked up and run all my fuel lines and stuff before the cab goes back on.

I'm using 3m powder guide coat with the foam applicator. It has helped me a ton.

Thanks, I've taken the last few weeks off from the truck, haven't had the time or the patience to do more blocking. I have been researching my LS swap pretty extensively though and everybody seems to recommend those cam guys to spec a cam for your application. I'm certainly learning myself but I still need to grab a motor before I figure out what cam I'm going to go with your way ahead of me in that department. I have spent the last couple of weeks over on LS1tech and read through a ton of info, great site.

Keith, check out lt1swap.com too. He has a ton of info and shows how to convert your own factory harness to stand alone. I did that for Sunburn and it worked great. We had the PCM tuned/flashed by someone else for a bit more performance, but for a stock engine he can did a reflash for less then a $100.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Happy New Years everyone, if you read my previous post I haven't worked on the truck for a few weeks now. Just to much stuff to do around the holidays and what time I did have I couldn't stomach doing more blocking My wife picked me up some parts for Christmas, new PUI Black sunvisors and new brackets. I'll get back on the truck this weekend and start blocking again.

Thanks for the info Karl, I'll check the site out. I don't know if I'm confident enough to cut my own harness down but I'll definitely give it a look. I'm planning on running a little more then a stock motor, I'll definitely be doing a cam swap and a intake swap. I picked up a LS6 intake off of LS1Tech because I just don't like the way the truck intake looks and like the car intakes much better. I also won't have to worry about hood clearance either. Of course now I have to figure out the front accessories and still actually get a motor I'm trying to decide between a 5.3 or spending the extra coin on a 6.0.

Thanks Chris, glad to see you back on here. The big block was really an ego thing for me, just popping the hood and seeing that fat rat motor has always made me smile but I decided that I really want a modern motor with fuel injection and the ability to drive it anywhere. I know I could add fuel injection and overdrive to my big block but it would cost me much more in the long run then the LS Swap but would still leave me with a motor that leaks oil, has iron heads and a flat tappet cam and gets less then 10 mpg. Wish I would have made the decision sooner but I'm not looking back now.

I know the truck intakes aren't pretty but they perform a little better on the torque side. I have a truck intake on mine with a engine cover and it doesn't look to horrible lol. You could just forget about the intake all together and bolt a blower on top

Thanks I figured the truck won't be done anytime soon so I might as well go ahead and do the LS swap.

I have to re-do my exhaust and fuel lines for the dropmembers anyway so now is the perfect time to swap motors and get a little more modern. I had a 454/TH400 in my 72 and it is no comparison to the 5.3 in my 2013 GMC. This is what sold me on finally pulling the trigger on the swap. The 454 sounded better then my 5.3 does but I'll fix that

Thanks Jason, you haven't missed much, I'm still just working on the cab getting it ready for paint. Oh and I decided to swap drivetrains

I thought about swapping to the Trailblazer SS intake with the engine cover you have but I always liked the way the car intakes looked and my dropmember moves the motor up so I didn't want to run into any hood clearance issues. I wish I could do a blower but that is way out of my ballpark

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Some pics from last Sunday and today. The roof needed more filler work because I had low spots that ran the length of the drip rail above the door. I guess I sanded to much there and had no choice but to fill it.

Today I spent blocking the dash with 320, man what a huge pain that was. I'll sand it with 600 wet and it will be ready for sealer and paint.
