Thanks Tom for setting me straight. Machinery is pretty cheap around here, I only paid 400 for this one, even came with a electric cross feed and vice. It's 3 phase, so I have to change the motor. there is a bearing company that wants me to key shafts for them, so I will have work this winter

You are kidding me! Around here a Bridgeport like that would go for about 10X that. A wore out Bridgeport would still be $2K+.

That's a nice light, but it may obstruct your view slightly driving down the road?

What voltage is your motor? If it's 208, keep the 3 phase and use a variable frequency drive(VFD). I run a few of my machines this way and now prefer small 3 phase motors over single phase because I can make them variable speed. Best part is that a VFD is relatively cheap to buy.

Started to go down that road, I agree a better way, but 220V and 2 phase, might try looking a little more, but 2 phase VFD are hard to find or even available. Then I started to think about buying a 3 phase motor and a VFD, the motor plate is smashed and hard to tell what number the frame is

Dan, spent a little more time searching, and came up with a VFD for the Bridgeport, much better than the noisy rotary drive. Thanks for getting me back on track

Glad to hear !! Awesome that you have a 220V motor. You won't regret the VFD. I built a CNC mill a few years ago and used a Hitachi VFD with 100% satisfaction.
All you need now is some ball screws and a computer !!

Don't know if I'll ever get into CNC, I'm more of a manual kind of guy, been there my whole life....

Weird, to run into 2 phase, but its a philly and Rochester thing, from way back in the day. found out about it on practical machinist
