Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

found out that my truck SUCKS the gas at 85 mph. Guess I won't be doing that very often. Took it to work, and kept up with this guy in a Land Rover. I sorta thought he was irritated with me just sort of hanging back, at 85 mph. I know he could have gone faster than me, but the freeway was getting crowded.
Besides, the cheapie electric fuel pump was real close to it's maximum output. I could feel the engine sort of starving a little bit.

Thanks Ray!

The wood is Red Oak. They are all treated with 4 coats of Helmsman Spar Varnish followed by 2 coats of POR-15's Pelucid for further protection.

I ran into a bit of an issue midway through. While "attempting" to install I realized that the forward bolt holes for the frame on the second boards were in the wrong location and had to have a couple of replacement boards made. I needed more Pelucid but apparently POR-15 stopped making it. I ended up using POR-15's Glisten instead. The end product seems to be similar but requires a hardener. Regarding appearance, you can't tell the difference but it'll be interesting to see whether they age differently.

Thanks again!

Tim

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

drove it to dinner! Always draws an admirer or two.
some gal in a brand new 4X4 Chevy crew cab with paper plates stopped and said she thought it looked better than her brand new truck!

Wonder how she would think if she rode with me on the freeway, and couldn't hear the radio at 70 mph.

you need more stereo
i have 4 component sets, a 10'' sub and 1000 watts of amp.
it sounds good at 100 mph and i couldn't hear the motor if it blew.

drove truk in the rain today, warm days are numbered.
have to drive it, sun or rain.
the salt trucks will be out soon

Took it out on the highway and put a few more miles on it before putting it away for the winter. Speedometer reads way fast and haven't got the gas gauge working yet otherwise all good.

Just a thought, what I did with my stuff for my truck and my 39 chevy was wax them and I wrapped them in news paper for storage. Some of my truck parts lasted about 16+ yrs and looked great.

Where was that Mike? She's looking sweet as all get out.

What was the story with that '55-'56 next to you?

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I got her out on the road for maybe the last time this year, before i start the body work on the front fenders. I thought it would be nice for a couple of pictures! lots of color in the back ground, with all the leafs changing.

Thanks Ray

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I brought it home, finally. Looking forward to starting this one. Its a 54 but has a older grill on it. No title (need to get that situated) but remarkably rust free. Will need very little repair to be a solid truck. This will be more of a driver/shop truck build.
