Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

Hi Trev, truck is running real good, it's still my DD. I haven't found the time to do any write ups on work I've done recently. I pulled the intake manifold and cleaned and resealed it, put in a new hard line for the oil pressure gauge, and sealed another leak at the oil dipstick. Then I put in all new spark plug wires using the stock routing, painted the valve covers and some brackets, and installed the AC compressor brackets. Always there are projects on tap, just need to find time to do them, that's all.

Hope all is well with you and your truck.

COWL VENT TRASH GUARD

I had a little time this morning so I thought I'd add this to my Project thread. This was a simple project and took less than an hour.

I've been wanting to install a trash guard for quite a while. The leaves are beginning to fall now and I don't want to go through another season picking leaves out of the cowl grate.

The guard comes in two flavors; stainless steel and painted black. I went with the stainless version from Classic Industries for longevity and looks.

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

Hi Jim, just ran across your thread - very cool. I bought a '68 GMC Custom last summer and continue to play with it, so your post is very informational. She has 106kmi original paint and interior with 355 Chevy, L-79/041xhds. etc. Vintage 60/70 factory High Performance with th400/Dana posi. Like those wheels - will try to find some... Best, Bob - Seattle

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

Jim,

I just read through your thread. I appreciate the time and energy you took to write up your experiences in such detail so that the rest of us may see and learn that much more easily. My truck has been sitting for the last two years as I am stationed overseas right now, but I am due to return to the states this summer. You have inspired me to add more care and time in my write ups that I will be doing in the future. I figure if I want to make a quality write up, I will have to slow down a bit and be a bit more methodical and deliberate in my project planning and implementation (I’ve had a few problems in the past with Slow and Deliberate vs Fast and Hard ).

Anyhow, great to see you enjoying your truck, because that’s what it’s all about.

Best Regards,
Travis

Thanks, Travis. I keep working on mine Slowly and Deliberately but I haven't taken the time to write about it for a while. I see quite a few threads where someone has lost their enthusiasm due to trying to do too much work on their truck at once. I look forward to seeing your write-ups on your truck when you return to the good ol' USA.

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

This thread should be pinned right up there with Bruce88's "It's Just a Pickup" thread. Seriously.

Great attention to detail in documenting the repair of a good number of issues that ail our 40+ year old trucks.

If I ever decide to start driving my truck daily, you can be sure this thread will be referenced heavily.

Kudos, Jim, for your work here. And I love your truck.

Jim, how is the seat holding up after 6 years of use? Getting ready to redo some of the foam on a pair of bucket seats and I have kept your thread for reference for this very project.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

Jim-

I just went through your thread, hope all is well.

I also own (actually my son's) a 1969 Saddle/White C10, I know yours is a C20, but saw you were collecting pictures of them.

My son is in the Air Force, but it works out great, he sends parts and I get to "play" with his truck! Win/Win in my book!

The engine in this one has the same casting number yours does, 3932386 with the TH400.

I do not have a build thread going yet but i will start on soon.

Jason
