Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

Yeah i know..
i had an old Oriellys delivery Nissan truck that i lowered and put 6 lug chevy wheels on and a guy at the votech i went to had that truck and it didnt run, he gave me $500 and the 83 for the Nissan, i went over there to get it (only saw pics) and he had the distributor out in the floor board, turns out he was doing a tune up and pulled the distributor who knows and i just basically finished what he had started and drove the truck home and he wasnt too happy about that but titles were signed and it was too late.

It was red and was missing most of the interior, i went to pull-a-part and scrounged up all i needed and sold it for 4200 i think.. its been a few years back

I agree with Travis that was a pretty slick truck man! Now we just need to get you back over to the square body side.

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

That was a great looking truck! Sucks you had to sell. I have been there too.
Hows the manifold welding going? I had pretty good success welding a bung for the o2 sensor on the 86. I used a tig and stainless filler worked pretty good. Let me know if I can try to weld it for you.

I tried to do weld up a inboard manifold last week with no success, then switched to braze....man it looked good but as soon as it cooled the crack got bigger than before. I think its just too thick to fix. I told my friend, your just going to have to buy a new one. Some of the cast metal can be welded, some can't just depends on the metal? Good luck! and don't forget pictures.

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

Damn had to bring up pictures....
I promise you,you dont want to see pics of my braze job
I ground the cracks out with a burring bit then used a rose bud and heated the manifold up nice and hot then switched to a brazing tip and got around the crack glowing red and used a nickel rod, it seemed to do the trick but i really dont want to have to do it again so ill probably buy a new one..

Don't you normally use nickel for cast iron?

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

Do you remember how much you had to move the hanger forward? I think there is roughly 18" difference right?

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

Nope same as you would have to cut and shorten your frame, 14 in

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

I need to go back and check my measurements again. I measured 93" from the center of front bed mount to the rear edge of the frame on my longbed and 75" on a shortbed frame at the junkyard. Of course there is 5" diff behind the rear shackle bracket between the two also.

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

There is 14in difference in a long bed and short bed, i measured exactly 14 out and put the brackets there and the wheel is centered nicely.

Now i cut about 18in off the back after i moved everything but the actual rear end movement is 14in.

Actually, I use a stainless rod for cast when welding the tig and brass with when torching. But stainless has nickel in it so yes I normally use a nickel alloy.

I cut out 13" of the frame today.

There is 5" that has to come out behind the rear shackle bracket, so that would add up to 18".

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

I would cut another inch out otherwise the wheel will probably not be right in center of wheel well..
