Re: '63 GMC Project

Thanks

My buddy took a couple of pics of me rolling home from a local show last night. They're a little blurry but that's to be expected with a cell phone in the dark at 70 mph.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately the cruising season is winding down here. Soon I'll be packing her away for the winter. It's gonna suck to not drive it for about 5 months.

Thanks Cort. Am I crazy or did you used to live in Portland OR? I was out there back in Sept and kept an eye out for your 'burb and your old truck.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I'm having some trouble with the windshield gasket. Back in June I took it to have the windshield gasket replaced with a new one I got from Classic Parts. It turned out to be extremely twisted and the installer couldn't get the trim pieces back on. So I drove it home without the trim pieces in and it looked horrible. The next week I ordered a new seal from Steele Rubber at the Good Guys show (July 9), it just arrived at my house 2 weeks ago, 4 months later! I dropped the truck off at the installer 4 days ago and called him the next day and he tells me the new gasket is even worse than the old one and he was trying to get the old one back on. He also says I may end up having to order a new gasket without the trim and just not use the trim at all. I am so P.O.ed right now.

He just does not want to do it, it is hard to do, let him order the gasket....or get another glass guy....

My glass man told me 150.00 to install a windshield with the chrome trim and he said it was a royal pain in the ass.......and he is a hot rod guy and a friend...(i already have the windshield)

Re: '63 GMC Project

Very nice build Creep.
Just finished reading this.

I hope you get your front glass issue worked out because before I get mine back on the road I am going to have to get it done as well. I would like to read up on the issues and what you did to resolve them for this.

Keep on Truckin' man !!

True that. When I ordered my gasket it was a continues piece. The glass guy said it sucked and that the ones they use they cut to the length they need.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Thanks guys. I still haven't got it back yet. I even called to tell him I didn't have to work today and could run out to give him a hand but he wasn't there and I never heard back. If I don't get it back on Monday I'm seriously thinking of going to get it without the windshield installed but with 40* temps outside I may have to have it trailered.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Hmmmmm if it were 40* here I would push my rig outside and wire wheel the whole freekin thing.
Supposed to be between -5* and 5* with chance of snow tomorrow (Saturday).

But enough whining... I hope you get your rig back soon with the job done right too!

Re: '63 GMC Project

I finally got my windshield installed. I ended up taking it to another shop but they couldn't get the trim and gasket in either. So I just gave up and had them order me a gasket without the trim and put the windshield back in. And to top things off my truck keeps trying to stall when I come to a stop. I'm thinking it may need a fuel pressure regulator or a bigger carb. The engine builder recommends a 750 cfm but I'm only running a 650 cfm.

Re: '63 GMC Project

A 650 should run just fine if it is tuned correctly. It just won't have the top end a 750 would. Is it an Edelbrock or a Holley?

Re: '63 GMC Project

It's an Edlebrock 1405 if I remember correctly. I read somewhere that you need to run a fuel pressure regulator but I thought that was only with a mechanical fuel pump. I'm using a Holley red label electric pump.

Re: '63 GMC Project

The Edelbrock carbs are extremely sensitive to fuel pressure. In fact that is mentioned in the manual, if you have that. You don't want any more than 5.5psi fuel pressure, at any time. I'm thinking the Holley red pump is putting out too much psi for the Edelbrock.

No problem. Let us know if the fuel pressure fixes your issue.

Have you still got the parts for the power steering on the 305? Would you like to sell them?

Thanks.

For now I think I'm going to hold on the the 305 power steering pump bracket. I want to find another project to put the V6 in. Sorry.
