Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

SKYMANGSL
Didn't get Cecil out yet for a road test today. Decided to spend the time leaning forward to get it finished up. Fuel sender went in today, finished up the exhaust, capped the rear wheel wells, plumbed the mechanical gauges, worked yhe AC lines, etc. Tomorrow the seat goes in and test drive.

By my count, (its a slow day at work) you got to this point in roughly 9.5 weeks. Truly impressive, especially the experimentation and craftsmanship on this build. Again very impressed!!!

SKYMANGS:
Bed buttoned up today. 5/8" exterior grade plywood as a base, 125 year old tongue and groove barn wood for the finished bed.
Looks like Chris had some helpers today!

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

Thanks again Shawn for taking the time to post these.

Having some issues getting Cecil to run right... fine when it's cold, but falls all over itself in mid range and hot idle. I've checked all the sensor voltage and ohms, fuel pressure, etc. I'm down to thinking it's got to be a wide open injector or two. My diagnostic wizard is stopping by in the AM to double check all my findings, and scratch heads with me. After that, I'm gonna have to just bite the bullet and get a set of injectors.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

SKYMANGS:
Seat is finally installed. Took it for a test drive the other. Stumbles a lot in the mid range, may have something to do with those injectors. I'll try to get my code reader to connect to it tomorrow. Truck rides really smoothly, but those front tires are a little on the large side. Ride height has settled to exactly 6".

If anyone has 18s and wants to buy a new set of rear tires PM me! Looks like I am going to have to buy another set of tires for front! Oh well we tried.

Its the little details that Chris AKA Ole' Sarge, AKA SKYMANGS has done for Cecil that really make him special. Here is another! Thanks Chris!

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

Chris, when you are doing these swaps, including Cecil, how much gap do you leave between the cab (at center) and the bed?

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

Thanks all.

Tlorber; the key is the splash gaurd gap, not the bed. I shoot for 3/8" gap between the cab corner and splash gaurd. If this gap is correct, the bed follows along (board is bolted to fender). I only set the bed up as a fully assembled unit.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

Chris, I understand the logic. However, since I am starting with a '54 long bed, I will be shortening the bedsides, running boards, and splash guards-basically working the reverse of your normal procedure. So my starting point is the placement of the bed front and bottom (I'm using the S10 steel bed bottom), that's why I'm looking for the finished dimension.

SKYMANGS:
Re-aging process nearly complete! I ordered a new set of injectors for it today. Hopefully they will clean up the mid range power.

It's the S10 hitch. To make up for cutting the frame. Where it was supposed to mount, I skinni ed it up and notched the mount plates around the rear shackles. Then welded some 3/16" plate tabs to the brackets to extend them back into the frame. Make sense?

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

sort of makes sense but haven't got this far yet and didn't know if I would have to start from scratch and my truck didn't have a hitch so I don't have anything to go by, but knowing it's possible makes me feel better about it

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

SKYMANGS:Started my day today by installing Cecil's newly arrived injectors. Only to find out that they leak like something fierce from the bottom. Needless to say I will be returning them. Heading to Bonner Springs in the AM to get the old injectors sonic cleaned and flow tested... starting to get a little old now.

UPDATE: Talked to Chris this morning the company that sold the Injectors to him called him this morning and told him that the injectors need to be seated on the rail in order to not leak. He is going to try this and hopefully this eliminates the leaking fuel, and the sluggish engine at mid range.
