Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
I think I decided on a color. It's cyber metallic gray. I just scuffed a door I got from the pick and pull and did have black primer and half white to see if it would change the tint. Just testing color.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
So been pretty busy with school and work. I spent the last few weeks playing with paint and such. Working on my not so good body and painting skills. Ended up buying a new paint gun. What a difference a good gun makes. Also for the life of me cant get metallic B/C to look good at all. Always looks flat when I clear it. So I ended up playing around with a single stage. I know your not suppose to clear over a SS, but I played around with it for a few days on my hood and got it to come out pretty decent. At least for me and just painting under the hood and inside the cab. I will get a pro to paint the outside, later down the road that is. I sprayed the SS and let it set for a day, then scuffed it with green scotch brite and then cleared over it. Turned out pretty good and leaves me room to sand and buff the clear to make it look better.

Here is my firewall. This is all I painted right now. Going to start putting it back together. My plan is to paint the outside with plasti-dip flat black for now. This way I can work panels on weekends and then just redip them.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
little update. Got the cab back on frame. Started messing around with the slash tubz and decided my old fenders were beat up real bad. So went and got another pair from pick and pull. Got lucky and some needed the core support. So only had a few bolts to pull to get fenders.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
now trying to figure out these tubz. Got them mounted as tight as possible and the tires still rub at a low ride height. Some installed pics would be awesome from other members or experience.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
Can any offer advice on this? This is the slosh tubz flange were it bolts to inner fender. To get this any tighter, will need to cut at least 3/4 of the tubz flange and more off inner fender. Then redoing all the bolt holes. But, I'm concerned if all that cutting will yield more gap between tubz and tire. The top of the tubz is against the inner fender and these things are pretty thick and rigid.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
I swapped a guy at work a set of 17s with the 5.5 BS for the stock tires and wheels. Tires are wore out, but oh well. Cleared up some of the clearance issues in the inner fenders. Still would like a little more turning room.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
So I have an idea on how to get some more turning room. Unfortunately it calls for cutting up a pair of slosh tubz and completely removing the inner fender above the wheel. Leaving just the outer fender skin. I'll take a few pics in case it happens to work out. LOL

I'm just catching up. Nice build. I hope you never go back to that frame shop that "fixed" your front end.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
Well, I finished cutting up the tubz and my fenders. Manged to gain another 1.5 inches of room at ride height. The tube is now flush with the inside of the fender.

Re: 83/84 swb stepside long time build
Been a bit, but got the tubz all fixed. Started pulling it apart and stripping it all down to bare metal to see rust. Made it through front clip and cab. started working on interior paint. Only painting what can be seen. All other just did epoxy and a light haze of paint. Going to lizard skin most of it.

That is a nice color. It laid down really smooth on the back wall of the cab where you took the close up.
