Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I have been working hard, on other money making projects. 4 Yukons/Denalis - 2 for parting, 2 for fixing. 1 of the fixed ones I am keeping for my son to drive when he turns 16 in 4 months. The others will just about pay for that one.

I have actually made a little progress on the build too, I'll take some pics tomorrow.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Granted, it is only resting on the frame, but for me this is a major milestone.

Next on the agenda is to see how to mount the body, transmission clearance, engine clearance, what will be my new wheelbase, and the list goes on.

I jumped on the frame, removing the leaf spring brackets first. A boy we mentor lent a hand. We are grinding a fat slot in the rivet head and then knocking the rest off with my air chisel, I'll have to say pretty easy and quick that way.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I have determined the the wheel base will grow by 4.5 inches, first thing I know that will interfere is the spare tire mount. I cut it off and will also move the last tubular cross brace back 4 inches. The frame can be lengthened at the rear if I need to, the rear axle will simply get relocated 4.5 inches back instead of cutting the frame and welding it back together in the middle.

The frame kick up has been difficult to work around, but really it is a frame that sinks down in the middle more than it kicks up in the rear only. Instead of mounting the cab nearly on the frame, I am going to reuse the 2.5 inch body mount biscuits that came on the new truck. The frame looks normal under there at that height and it helps tremendously with mounting the bed.

I think I can get away with only removing the bed cross mounts and substituting 1 inch tall channel iron. Here you can see I have started that work.

I love the dueling angle grinders picture! It is cool that you are able to use the project as a learning tool for some kids too. Nice work. I am enjoying watching this monster come together.

Yeah, I knew that would be a fun picture. I put the camera on the bench and set the timer.

I like what you're about too.
