That looks great. I have already bought some KBS but haven't used it yet. I'm wondering what your level of prep was? I plan on scraping the truly heavy grease off, then using my angle die grinder and a fiber type small wheel to get the rest off, final wipe down with acetone and then paint. WIll that be enough or did you sandblast or sand with a rought grit to give the metal a "tooth"? Did yours dry quickly? Did the brush strokes level out nicely? |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Pulled the oil bed strips out of the attic rafters and punched out the cutoff carriage studs. Looks like with a little tlc they will work just fine. Channeled by great grandfather Buxton, who was a blacksmith in Casper WY around 1900, and started straightening, etc. on them.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I received the custom made rear fenders for the flatbed in the mail. Thats when I discovered I'm a bone head and gave them the wrong mesurments.
So I spent all of Sat and part of sunday re-arching the fenders. Had to change the opening from 39 1/2 in to 29 1/2 in. I still need to grind down all of the welds where I pie cut the fenders. About 100 @ 2 inch welds in total.. AGAIN, my fault not theirs. The quality of the fenders are top notch and would not hesitate to use "fenders n' more" again. |

Walked by the truck and kicked the tires to see if they had enough air in them and decided that was enough work for today.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
A lot of the basic tools I use have been passed down the generations. I have carpentry and wood working tools that I am at least the fourth generation to use. What I met in the post was channeling his energy and memories that is I think is a part of our inherited DNA. A lot of people believe that when you use a tool, or build something a part of you stays with that tool or object, kind of a Zen thing. Also might be the reason some tools just feel more comfortable or a "part" of us when we use them.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Completely ruined my new custom flatbed fenders trying to "massage" them to fit perfectly. Then I whined and moaned until the wife let me order new ones. Then I went to the garage and hit myself in the head with a hammer 'till I felt better.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I thought a lot about my tank filler and did some on-line research for a solution. This week end going to attack the tailgate latch install. FFredo, I feel your pain. I once got an stock 59 fender in what I thought was bad condition to use for parts and welding practice. I practices a lot. when I stripped down my fender I found out the "bad" one, which now has hundreds of holes, cuts and weld beads, was in better shape and would have worked.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
new oil and filter for the ol girl today, tried to get spark plugs, but will have to pull one to find model number for the local shops. Strangely don't list 1969 327SBC, nor 59 Apache in their reference material.......

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I got the I-6 engine ready to pull out (previous owner spun #2 crank bearing) and the transmission almost out.
Starting to think about going smallblock, since the machine shop is talking more than 2K to rebuild her. |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Turned the garage upside down looking for 1 missing wiper bezel and the radio delete knob buttons. No luck, must have put them in a safe place so I wouldn't loose them.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Spent the afternoon stripping the cab roof.. The previous owner had used epoxy primer OVER the rust. So stripped off so I can sand it down somewhat smooth then primer and fill it correctly.
Got a call and have someone coming to look at the truck this coming weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed.
