Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Smart decision of stopping at a reseal, you know how these projects work, "while I'm doing that I might as well do this" and it turns into a full restoration

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
So I've got some updates on things. To replace the rear main ended up requiring me to pull the crank which revealed the main and rod bearings. The mains look great but most of the rod bearings are worn to the brass. SO, new rod and main bearings are on their way. Thanks to all the people for scrapping these good motors I am having one hell of a time finding parts. The rod bearings are available, but the mains I could only get a set from ebay made by TWR some time ago. I also have a new oil pump and timing chain on the way. Debating on putting a new water pump in as well since I have it apart and that is more "cheap" insurance. As far as I have this motor torn down I almost bit the bullet and purchased a set of rings, mainly because I can see blow by on the bottoms of the walls. Nothing that a can of engine restore can't help with due to how good this engine runs. Anyhow, got the oil pain, valley pan, and motor mounts painted up. Looking perrty good thus far.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
And since people like to brag about Size....I think I got some bragging rights. lol
1st pic shows the condition of the bearings...they look better in the pics. Get a load of that crank shaft! And the main caps! She's beasty captain!

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Better perspective on the mains. Not to mention the size of the dang rods! No wonder this thing explodes after 4K. lol The crank weighs a good 130 pounds.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Slowly but surely....wanting things to be perrty so I am taking my time. Liking how things are turning out. Screwed up the water pump pulley a little....grabbed it to early. haha Oh well, not gonna repaint a darn pulley because of two little finger prints!

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
New parts! Was lucky to get rod bearings, oil pump, and complete timing set from the same place brotha Don works. Also a full gasket set. They are seeming to be having a hard time finding a clutch kit though. Hope they cane cause I need one bad.

Thanks brotha! If all goes right, today after work I should have the block and front water pump casing painted up.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Looking good tj, it takes a lot longer than most realize to clean and pain an engine with over 50 years of dirt and grease. Oh and btw that is a HUGE water pump!
