Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

I have a quick question, I am wanting to add the same master cylinder to my 68. Can you share where you purchased it, I looked on ebay but seen the 1 1/8" bore which I believe is correct but want to be sure as there is so many options. Also are you using the stock actuator rod with this ? Thanks

Larry,

If you plan to run manual brakes like I am then you will want a 7/8' bore. Some guys go with a 15/16" with manual but I think the 7/8" gives the best feel. The 15/16" feels soft to me.

I got everything from Summit

7/8" Master cylinder- https://www.summitracing.com/parts/w...9-bk/overview/

Proportional valve- https://www.summitracing.com/parts/w...1179/overview/

If you are going power brakes (vacuum) I would use a 1" bore and if you go with hydroboost then that 1 1/8" would be a good choice. These are all my opinion from my personal experience and you may get differing opinions from other people.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

Thanks so much for the info Mike, I will order mine from Summit also. Yes I had planned to run manual brakes, but there is just so many different things out there without ample knowledge sometimes it can be hard to see what you really need.

Might I suggest you talk with the folks at Wilwood for the proper sizing? I know that is what the person that helped me size and order my parts did. I did end up with a .875 diameter bore as well though! I am going with D52 calipers up front with 12' rotors and D154s out back with 12' rotors for reference.
I also must say that I am really enjoying watching you two (Mike and Larry) with your builds. I am in the process of doing a little bit of what both of you are doing. Kind of a blend of some of your best. I just hope I can execute the plan as well as you two have! Although I am not lowering my truck quite as much as you are Mike.

Thanks for all of your posts; although my wife probably would not second that sentiment!

Exactly what I wanted to hear, I plan on doing a similar thing to mine!

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

Between my son's track meets and Easter Sunday I didn't get much shop time this weekend. I was able to slip out there a little Friday night and a little Saturday night and finished laying down the FatMat. I ordered 100 sq ft off of Amazon for $149.00. It came with two 50 sq ft rolls and I didn't quite use a whole roll. I do plan on removing the door panels and puting some behind there as well so I might get into the second roll. I hardly had any waste at all. One thing I will say is be sure where you want it because once it's down there isn't much chance in getting it back off

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

I am planning to buy my carpet from "Stock Interiors" . I am unsure of what color will match my interior so they are sending me some samples to compare against my seat and door panels before I order.

Here is a picture of my seat that I want to match and my SPID. The SPID shows the truck came with 629 Olive Custom cloth. Stock Interiors offers two dark green colors in the 80/20 loop, 509 Dark Olive green and 588 Dark Green. I will post pictures of the samples when they arrive. The carpet I want to order is for the high hump and no gas tank so the carpet extends all the way to the back of the cab. I also plan to get the mass backing for additional sound and heat control.

My truck just has a black rubber floor mat in it right now. I am back and forth on keeping the rubber mat or going with carpet. I like the minimalist look of the interior with the mat but I really hate how loud and hot the truck is to drive. Throw some opinions at me guys!

I'm w/you on the minimalist 'feel/look' on the inside. I also want that look for my 64 but will run the 80/20 carpet in black. I feel it best matches my black rubber mat (color wise for sure) but shouldn't stand out as an upgrade like a colored carpet floor might. I am tying in more black to my interior vs what you have so far (Fawn-ish main interior color w/black accents).

The sound deadening, sound isolation (foam layer), & MLV barrier definitely makes a difference. My dually has 1 3/4 long tube headers, 3" SS exhaust tubing thru 3" Dynomax mufflers (under the back seat area of the cab), & then transitions to 2.5" SS tailpipes. With the windows up, it's quiet inside (quieter vs the stock manifolds/2.5" pipe & glasspacks that were under the bed).

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Scoti,

You may be in to something with the black carpet vs the dark green.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

Are you trying to make the interior look more factory, or are you doing custom gauges and different things like that?

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

nah, I'm not trying to make anything look factory correct but I also don't plan to change anything but the gauges. The gauges will be Dakota Digital VHX but everything else will remain as you see it in the picture. My only reason for considering the carpet is for comfort only.

I'm thinking about replacing my rubber floor mat with black carpet also, the rest of the interior is blue. The rubber is to difficult to keep clean looking and I hate when little rocks get under your foot.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

I started making my A/C and heater hoses tonight. This is my first time using the EZ Clip hose ends and I have to say I love them. Very easy to terminate (using the right crimping pliers) and no more going to the AC shop to have hoses made!! The hose is much better looking too!
